Sorry about the bad luck. I am surprised a branded product like that has failed on its first attempt. I wonder if you could remove the disk and insert it into the dvd slot on an older laptop. Pity they no longer put these slots on newer machines. Cheers for now Malcolm
@michaelchartres4 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment Malcolm. I discovered (by watching numerous KZbin videos) that the problem was with the disk itself. How it got damaged I shall never know because I have always been very careful when handling external drives, I have now replaced with SSD portable unit. It is much smaller and far more robust. Cheers Michael

Hi michael Love the vids. Watched a few times. I have a party going in august. My first time as skipper😅. Can you tell me where i can get the maps he showed you in the breifing please Thanks Chris

Hello Chris. The maps came with the boat hire. We used Le Boat but I believe other hire companies in the area also provide them. You can also find them on line on Le Boat's website. Thanks for watching and have a good party in August, Michael

@ThatGoth10 күн бұрын
There was a chance but sadly all chances of data recovery die as soon as you remove the metal cover, the platters can not handle a single piece of dust. The issue was likely electrical not mechanical, also external drives can not be trusted as there are electromagnetic fields everywhere so either have TWO and keep one at home to copy the first too or backup to a cloud service.
@michaelchartres10 күн бұрын
Good advice so thanks. I have now bought as SSD external storage 1T. It is small and apparently waterproof and shock proof. It is also much smaller. I just wish I had bought one of those before. Shall probably change to all SSD. What do you think???? Regards Michael
@ThatGoth10 күн бұрын
@@michaelchartres Even with SSD drives they have limited writes (should last years but can fail early) so always have a backup somewhere.

The same boat we had the first time we did the Caledonian. I thought she handled very well considering they don't have bow thrusters due to their age. We weren't so lucky with mooring spaces at Fort Augustus as the canal was pretty busy and there were also a lot of yachts underway.
