Did you re gear 529 ? S ? Which leaf spring pack are you running ing and thoughts ?
@longstepadventures777015 күн бұрын
@@davidse4486 I haven’t re-geared her but I think I will, I have zero need to drive it at 80mph at 1400rpm lol. The leaf pack I went with is the Dobison 88 with Elka 2.5IFP, I don’t rock climb with it but for fire roads and rocky climbs it’s perfect. With the leaf pack I find very little side sway and mush, overall I’m really happy with it. Thanks for checking the video out!

What is the finish of this? Is that automotive carpet?
@longstepadventures77705 ай бұрын
It is a PVC backed polyeruethane elastomer fiber, super easy to clean and it doesn't get matted like automotive finishes.

I visited the badlands a few years ago and it was breathtaking, so beautiful and peaceful. They stretch on for many miles, and when we stopped there were no people. We also saw a whole colony of prairie chipmunks (i forget what they’re called) and a couple mountain goats

How much did all that cost if you’d be willing to share?
@longstepadventures777010 ай бұрын
Like most of Farht's builds, this wasn't a standard, off the shelf build. I did compare what I paid against two of the more popular aluminum modular units available commercially and the pricing was nearly the same. Mine cost slightly more due to the extra work required to make the three top storage units easily removable. Hope that helps.

Very nice setup! Sent off a quote request to Fahrt, I’ll be needing something a little more custom than Goose Gear can do on my Taco/Alu-Cab rig. Thanks for the video!

This was a custom build but not a wild departure from a normal build. I needed the space in the middle for a small dog. The vendor (Fahrt Systems) will work up anything you can think of in that space and most likely provide some cool innovations. Reach out them, they're super creative. They also have two very large dogs so they'll get it LOL . Thanks for checking it out!

I knew most of the areas in the video but never seen much of it from above. Great footage you got there. In the spring of 2016 I went to that washout near Mountain Park/Grave Flats and smoothed the banks then we clawed our way up with the jeep. Only the sxs’s and quads were doing it until then. Before that a new trail had developed but you had to cross the river twice and it was just wide enough for a sxs. That crossing is getting pretty good now though. Used to take my Class A motorhome past there before the river washed it out in 2013.
@longstepadventures7770 Жыл бұрын
I went through there back in the mid 90's with a full sized truck and camper and it was a wide open road. It's kind of nice to see the traffic reduced because of the wash outs. We didn't see a single vehicle for two days! Thanks for checking it out.
@williamsmisek642 Жыл бұрын
You mentioned you were going to get the truck weighed. I'm curious to what your loaded weight is. I'm considering an Alucab for my 08 Tacoma DCLB and wondering how close to GVWR I would be. I really like your build though. I'm also curious what you paid for your storage build compared to someone's extruded aluminum build.
@longstepadventures7770 Жыл бұрын
Hey William, thanks for checking out our video. All good questions. The truck weighed before install with 1/2 tank of fuel and myself in it was 4375lbs. After install of the camper and interior build up along with 13gals of fresh water and 1/2 tank of fuel was just a hair over 5300lbs. Fully loaded for a long trip I'm willing to bet it's tickling the GW limit. The GRW is 5600lbs on my unit. I definitely feel it back there but off-roading capabilities weren't hampered much at all. I also put in a Dobinson 880 leaf pack in the rear along with Elka IFP shocks. The interior build up was done by Fahrt Systems in Canada, check out their website and get in touch with Al for pricing. www.fahrtsystems.com/ It was a total custom job so any pricing I give here won't likely align with anything you've already checked but I will say (won't mention the mfg name) but it'll be less expensive than the more popular modular systems available commercially. As for the total build, we took it slow but we did Elephant Hill trail in Moab so I'm 1000% confident anything else I do with this rig going forward, it's going to handle it like a champ. I will be doing a walk through of the entire unit this coming spring, I've been getting a lot of questions about the rig under the Alucab so once I get out wheeling again I'll get something posted.
@williamsmisek642 Жыл бұрын
@@longstepadventures7770 thanks for the response. I'm still kind of kicking the tires for the Alec cab due to the price. It will end up cost me more for the Alucab all set up than what I paid for the truck....$15,500.

Nice build! just put an Alu Cab on my Tundra.. a little more room inside! did a rear seat delete for my cooktop and fridge. 80 20 is the best! lol My Awning install is next! cheers! have fun!

Sounds like a sweet rig! I was torn between a full size and the taco. It came down to size, basically what would fit into a shipping container to get it back from Argentina and to Europe. I would have preferred the space a Tundra offered but would be stuck with costlier and more complicated shipping options.

I walked in from 1A about 1km to the south. You are not trespassing as long as you stay off the bridge and away from the tracks.

This is such a downer for me. We camped in this area back in 1976 or 1977, and there was no pavement, wooden bridges, cattle drives and most importantly, no people. We camped here regularly, sometimes for a week or two, and rarely saw another human. I guess it's good that everyone can easily enjoy it now, but to me, it's disappointing.

I have been to the end of the road but I don't believe you can take a motor vehicle past the last campground certain times of year to get into Onion Lake. Its in a FLUZ, should be able to find something on the Alberta Parks website about dates for wheeled access.

Most of the trip you could with the exception of Mountain Park to Wild Boy Camp, high clearance vehicles are needed for that section but for the most part the road would be easily accessible for your car.
