You mentioned you were going to get the truck weighed. I'm curious to what your loaded weight is. I'm considering an Alucab for my 08 Tacoma DCLB and wondering how close to GVWR I would be. I really like your build though. I'm also curious what you paid for your storage build compared to someone's extruded aluminum build.

Hey William, thanks for checking out our video. All good questions. The truck weighed before install with 1/2 tank of fuel and myself in it was 4375lbs. After install of the camper and interior build up along with 13gals of fresh water and 1/2 tank of fuel was just a hair over 5300lbs. Fully loaded for a long trip I'm willing to bet it's tickling the GW limit. The GRW is 5600lbs on my unit. I definitely feel it back there but off-roading capabilities weren't hampered much at all. I also put in a Dobinson 880 leaf pack in the rear along with Elka IFP shocks. The interior build up was done by Fahrt Systems in Canada, check out their website and get in touch with Al for pricing. www.fahrtsystems.com/ It was a total custom job so any pricing I give here won't likely align with anything you've already checked but I will say (won't mention the mfg name) but it'll be less expensive than the more popular modular systems available commercially. As for the total build, we took it slow but we did Elephant Hill trail in Moab so I'm 1000% confident anything else I do with this rig going forward, it's going to handle it like a champ. I will be doing a walk through of the entire unit this coming spring, I've been getting a lot of questions about the rig under the Alucab so once I get out wheeling again I'll get something posted.

@@longstepadventures7770 thanks for the response. I'm still kind of kicking the tires for the Alec cab due to the price. It will end up cost me more for the Alucab all set up than what I paid for the truck....$15,500.

Thanks for checking our video out! It is pretty solid during heavy rain, I used a ton of SikaFlex on all external/internal mating surfaces. It did leak once while driving during heavy rain but I was able to seal that up and has been great so far. As for wind, I've spent quite a few nights in it during windy periods. Aside from it being noisy, I wasn't too worried about it breaking or leaking. I did have one night, in 40mph winds, that I thought it best to fold it up and sleep on the bottom. Nothing was damaged though and I'm pretty sure it would have been fine. Overall in bad weather, it has been exceptionally solid.

Nice build! just put an Alu Cab on my Tundra.. a little more room inside! did a rear seat delete for my cooktop and fridge. 80 20 is the best! lol My Awning install is next! cheers! have fun!

Sounds like a sweet rig! I was torn between a full size and the taco. It came down to size, basically what would fit into a shipping container to get it back from Argentina and to Europe. I would have preferred the space a Tundra offered but would be stuck with costlier and more complicated shipping options.

You just solved my problem living in my AluCab with 2 black labs when I saw your two platforms go lengthways across the cab! Custom fab?

This was a custom build but not a wild departure from a normal build. I needed the space in the middle for a small dog. The vendor (Fahrt Systems) will work up anything you can think of in that space and most likely provide some cool innovations. Reach out them, they're super creative. They also have two very large dogs so they'll get it LOL . Thanks for checking it out!

What lift, tires, rims, are you running? Also how tall in inches is your truck from the ground to the top of the Alu-Cab when it is closed?

33” Rubber with Elka 2.5 IFP suspension so roughly 4-5”. From canopy top to the ground is 92”. It fits (barely) into a 8’ garage door lol. Thanks for checking it out
