Considering how much negativity Zappa was getting on YT not too long ago, none of those choices for 'worst of' really surprise me.

RIP ED. Also from ‘88 we got the awesome The Best Band… and Make A Jazz Noise Here. I especially love the end of “stinkfoot” on Make a Jazz Noise Here when Zappa makes a cool theatrical performance at some audience member being cruel to how Ed interpreted a musical line in “Dickies Such An Asshole.”

@@BillsBoxOfSound no worries Bill! You referenced the tour regardless. Thanks for this great tasteful video. I also enjoy how they say Ed’s “disease of the band” is mental illness rather than something physical. Might’ve been from Chicago ‘78, but can’t remember

My first from Zappa was Stricly Commercial. Picked it up from my library and LOVED it. Then I got Freak Out from my library and thought it was awesome and hilarious. Uncle Meat is probably my favorite. So perfect. Every era of Zappa is awesome but I prefer everything up to and including Joe’s Garage

Yeah I don’t know what Universal’s problem is. Every time I pre order a Zappa release through them it always arrives at least a week after release date. If I’m patient enough to order through Amazon it’ll arrive on release date and with prime it’s WAY cheaper than Universal anyways. I gotta just do that from now on

Lindsay Buckingham put an ingenious locked groove on the end of side one of “Go Insane”. The song Play In The Rain goes into a locked groove loop at the end of side one, then picks up at the beginning of side two. If you record the song to tape or digital, it’s possible to make an edit that seamlessly connects the two. It’s freaking brilliant.

First of all you use distilled water because it comes without the minerals that you get in regular "clean" tapwater, ie. calcium, magnesium, phosphorus that you don't want residues of on your disc. Some people will argue that their water, tap water, bottled water etc. is clean enough, but it is not mineral free, which is the problem. Second, I'm surprised to see that the very expensive "Spin Cleaner" (expensive compared to alternative brands ie. "Spincare"!) doesn't come with a drying rack, as do alternative brands, ie. "Spincare"!?! (no, I don't have financial interests in Spincare! 😉). Simply drying the disc with a microfiber cloth doesn't make it completely dry, you'll still have to wait a while "holding it in your hands?" before putting your disc into a clean inner sleeve. Putting a disc that is still wet into an inner sleeve can and surely will create mold on the disc.

I met him once, in late 86, still in those days when supposedly he was a lot more of an 'asshole'. He was totally patient and kind and fully responsive in how he dealt with us, pretty much as he seems in these later interviews.
@AngloSaks666
@AngloSaks666 Ай бұрын
Basically, as emerges pretty quickly from any interview with him, of which there are many, he made sure the band was recorded as adequately as possible as it actually existed and sounded, including its working process and relationships, and took an attitude towards the rest of it so that the actual artists 'produced' the recording, only shifting anything he might be doing according to their expression and choices made in that process, thus was no 'producer' at all, except on his own records. It was a lesson that came out of punk rock, which put the unique expression of the artist at the forefront, and any imposition of anyone else's sensibilities onto it as a damaging intervention. It's not paying him a compliment to say 'he actually was a producer all the same'. He wasn't, his role in 'production' at best was to facilitate the band doing it themselves. It's actually to his credit that he didn't play at being a 'producer' for other artists he recorded, and that he didn't do or have much achievement in 'production', beyond, as I say, his own bands, where again the entire band is credited as producer, not him individually.

My favorite period of Frank Zappa’s career is the early Mothers of Invention. My second favorite period is the Flo and Eddie Mothers. Because it sounds the closest to the early Mothers, but more rock. I think vocally Flo and Eddie, resemble the early mothers more than any Zappa band, Though the band on “Bongo Fury” gets pretty close.

The CD from 2004 or so is excellent, with bonus material. I have the original 1977 LP as well. Don't recall a synth in the coda. Just guitar feedback. Love Adventure and the third album and the Rhino Handmade live set is quite spectacular as well. Really, don't think it is a synthesizer. Oh most of Verlaines solo stuff is excellent. Dreamtime (1981) and Flashlight (1987,) are favorites. And Richard's 1979 Alchemy! See you again!

A late comer to the party, last week I ordered and received the gold audio quest anti-static brush. Yes, it is a little cumbersome to use, but it does what it should. And I have found that it does remove static from the record. I hear no crackles when I take a record off of the turntable. Also, the brush's bristles do have some backbone, so it does do a good job in getting the deep down dust out of the grooves. The audio quest gold brush is a little tricky, but it does a good job.

There are certain subtle parallels with Vilness Fats such as the Mother in Vileness yelling: “more MORE dirty white clothes…ahhh” and the fact that this fungus is white. It seems like perhaps Randall is crazy, or perhaps there is a conspiracy but I LOVE how they leave it open ended and more open to interpretation rather than being so definitive. You can tell they were heavily influenced by David Lynch. In the 90s the Residents and Lynch came close to collaborating on Bad Day On The Midway
