Technically he was not classified as a falsetto, but counter tenor.

I saw Andrea and Celine's version after listening to the Pentatonix version a hundred bajillion times. I had to stop listening to the Andrea/Celine version about halfway through. It is no match for Pentatonix. No Match!

What a joy to watch you enjoy Bobby Hatfield. He was a counter tenor, hence able to sing higher than most tenors. He was a talent that only come around once in a lifetime.

As others have said you need to check out Avi's solo music. Also Avi collaborated with Peter Hollens on Black is the Color of my True Loves Hair.

I attended the concert, “Down From The Mountain”, with all of the artists from the soundtrack. It was awesome!! Ralph Stanley sang Man of Constant Sorrow.

No...sorry... he didn't take a breath at the beginning. Rob, I think Bobby is a counter tenor... a very rare voice .... but he can go to the baritone range too! I believe his range is 4 to 4 1/2 octaves! I've truly never heard anyone sing this song like he did. He owned it!

Bill could not sing harmony, only the tune. But Bobby could sing ANYTHING, and his genius made them great❤

I think I read that his range was 5 octaves. His jaw movements allowed for opening his larynx/windpipe to hit the higher notes. Not a falsetto. Something like that.

Some vocal coaches will tell a singer to let their jaw hang loose and it can go from side to side so they won’t have to stream to get the more notes. It’s a vocal technique.

Nobody could sing a song like Bobby Hatfield. Pure honey and velvet. unchained Melody is his song, his voice, his control his range. Nobody else could do it with this song.
