I love your reactions! I'm happy to see you've found the time to do some more reacting to PTX. Kevin and his celloboxing, right? He's so talented and intelligent with his music. I see you haven't done any Superfruit (Mitch & Scott), or any of their solo music, and no originals, so you have a wonderful long list of Pentatonix yet to enjoy! I suggest Kevin's solo cover (KOver) of "Down." Also, I am a big proponent of "Popspring 2016" which includes 3 original PTX songs plus their amazing "Evolution of Michael Jackson," performed live.

Amen to that! You must see Down from Kevin tho see just how incredible his talent is. Great reaction!

Absolutely stunning song…in typical PTX fashion each member performs their part flawlessly! I was glad to hear you acknowledge Mitch’s transition…between KO’s cello and Kirstie & Scott’s solos it quite often gets overlooked…or maybe it’s the fact that it’s “Mitch” and just expected…lol Also, you are in my top 2 or 3 reactors and I PROMISE I won’t hold the fact that you’re an attorney against you🤣🤣🤣

When Kevin Olusola was 12 years old, he was selected as the principal saxophonist of the United States Collegiate Wind Band and toured Europe during the summer for three weeks. He was also the principal cellist of the Kentucky State Youth Orchestra and received the highest honor at the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts. He soloed and performed on the cello in a piano trio at Carnegie Hall as the winner of the American Fine Arts Festival, and soloed a second time on alto saxophone for PBS’s special "From the Top at Carnegie Hall". He switched to music after finishing pre med school at Yale. Kevin is also fluent in Spanish and speaks Mandarin Chinese like a native, but that's a different story.

You pick up on all the ear candy that this group brings EACH and EVERY time. They are once in a lifetime talented. Please continue to react to PTX. I highly recommend "Take My Heart With You." I was just thinking to myself what a nice speaking voice you have and then you started singing a bit. Your voice is great! Glad you noticed Kevin’s beatboxing on your second listen. I’m going to see Pentatonix at the Hollywood Bowl in a few weeks and really hope Kevin plays cello. Oh, did you hear the small pokerface riff? I love it.

Hope you have or had the best time at their show. Depending on the date this video was shown. I know they planned to do a box office takeover. Meaning they would actually be in the box office selling tickets to their show! WOW! Imagine the surprise of people seeing the people closeup and chatting with them even if it’s just a few words.😍😍😍

Great reaction man!! Kevin's cello is named Beyonce, and occasionally they will break it out. The thing I like...it will always be front and center...they never try to hide an instrument if it is being used. Vocally they are just otherworldly. Kevin created the form of music known as Cello-boxing, that's how they found him...Kevin played Cello at Carnegie Hall as a teenager....dudes too talented. Loved this.

Welcome back ! I've missed your Pentatonix reactions. If you were wondering, the video is based on the movie poster for "A Star is Born", which had a black-and-white photo with gold lettering over it. And this may be longer than the soundtrack version because it seems to be based on the version within the movie, which is a montage of scenes as Lady Gaga's character develops her performing confidence.

I'm glad you found the time to do this particular reaction. Informed and enjoyable. If you want to listen to two excellent covers with Kevin on the cello (and beatboxing at the same time) do Say Something and Radioactive. Kirsty is brilliant in Say Something. The whole video in incredibly moving. Lindsay Stirling features in Radioactive and it is a great piece. With Kevin and Lindsay on cello and violin it has a different flavour to most of their songs. So I hope you can eventually get to both these songs. Finally, Thank You has Scott on the piano and Kevin again on the cello. It is an original and is very moving.

Yes to all of these and will add Papaoutai, a colab with Lindsey Sterling and Kevin on his cello. The song is done completely in French which Scott ( lead in this song) had to hire a tutor to get the phrasing and emphasis right.

You may want to listen to the song again because Kevin is cello-boxes during this song (he's playing the cello while beatboxing, a little something he invented).🙂

It's beautiful, isn't it? And yes, I believe Kevin is the only person in the world who does 'cello-boxing'! Kirsty has a very tight 'vibrato' I wonder if that's the affect you mean? It's a vibrato that vibrates between two very close notes.

New to you and loving your reactions! Kevin and his cello are hauntingly beautiful. With his beatboxing skills and his beatboxing skills while playing cello plus factor in his sweet tone when he sings (on other songs) that catches you off guard, he is another level of talent. IMO. It is always so easy to focus on others in PTX and I wanted to highlight Kevin and all of his skills, he is holding it all together as he drives the songs with his beatboxing. And cello. Love this song and the PTX version of it. Thank you. ❤️

Are you talking about the “cry” in Kirsties voice?
@Gwennedd2 жыл бұрын
That's generally called "vocal fry" in singing terms. I'm not a vocal coach, but I'll play one on TV for pay.😁..but... this is what I've gathered from watching vocal coaches explanations as reactors to PTX.
@Badger777222 жыл бұрын
@@Gwennedd Not a singer or vocal coach either, but I don't think what Kirstin is doing is vocal fry, I think it IS the "cry" technique. To me, that's a method of attacking some words as you sing them, starting off with a slightly lower volume and increasing as you finish the word. It's supposed to imitate the way you talk when you're crying, hence the name. I think vocal fry is a deeper, rougher technique. Not sure how to describe it, but I know that's how Geoff Castellucci says he gets into his sub-harmonic notes, by using vocal fry on the note he's actually singing. While I've heard "crying" from both male and female singers, I can't really think of when I've heard a female singer use vocal fry - perhaps Janis Joplin used it? EDIT: Oh, boy, I just looked up both techniques, and it got really technical really quickly, LOL! "Crying" is apparently connected to "scream singing" in some way, but it got way too technical for me to really follow it at all. But vocal fry is noted as the "lowest vocal register", and talks about a "popping or rattling sound". That goes along with Geoff C's comment, and it's not something I'm really hearing in Kirstie's voice here.
@Gwennedd2 жыл бұрын
@@Badger77722, thanks for the clarification! Goes to show us how little we understand all the technicalities of music, and singing in particular. Sure we can learn a bit from youtube, but it's really such a tiny amount compared to what people who have studied it for years and have lived it every day. It's the same as being an artist. I studied basics for years, spent years learning my craft, perfecting it and exploring so many methods, styles and techniques... and even now, still practice nearly every day, still on the journey of exploration. Yet I'm still only an amateur.
@Badger777222 жыл бұрын
@@Gwennedd I happened to find a fairly good example of "cry" technique, at least a demonstration of the difference between it and just singing the words regularly. Check about 2:15 to hear Kristin singing, and then the explanation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6XGYZyko7B3gNk
