I have been working as an OTR in United States for 20 years now. It’s a rewarding field as it offers a lot of autonomy in regards to patient care. I started out in a SNF and worked the private sector for many years of yet heartbroken due to insurance rules. I currently work for Veterans Affairs and love it. I love it as I don’t have to deal with the buerocracy of the insurance companies. Salary in private sector is very negotiable. Range between 40 and 50 dollars an hour. PRN and travel therapist get paid quite a bit more. SNF pay great but offer very little experience to grow your skills

Depends on what program you want to go in. Like a hybrid is longer usually 9 semesters 3 years . Full time takes 6 semesters 2 years

Hello, I am a student OT in Gold Coast Australia, I was just curious about if you think we will see the OT salary increase over time as our profession develops and becomes more understood by other health workers, clients and even other individuals more generally?

I don't know about her, but Human Services is the major for becoming a case manager, probation officer, family and marriage therapist, and an Occupational Therapist (OT). You should definitely look into Human Services major!

I really enjoy the podcast but would love to hear more about what OTs can do to promote our profession in these settings where we feel unrecognized rather than discussing what we would have chosen as a profession other than OT. OT needs people to expand and promote our profession! Our higher educations can do so much to help others and do big things in various settings. For acute care, OT plays a huge role in early stroke rehab, delirium management in the ICU, post-op orthopedics, COVID-19 care, reducing length of ventilator use, neurological conditions, cancer, and acute amputations to just name a few. Know your worth as an OT and promote our profession!

Prospective student here! Well, I plan on becoming an OTA. I appreciate this info because I’ve seen really exciting figures for what I’d make even as an ota, but later found out that those may not be realistic figures.

@@lee_rayyy58 ummm well I don’t have any personal experience (yet!) to back this up- but I have researched it a bit. And it does seem that this is a perfectly accurate figure for your area (although I’m sure it depends on where you are in Texas, also) but Texas is one of the highest paying areas for OTA in America (probably just bc the cost of living lol) So I wouldn’t consider it unrealistic at all for you to expect to eventually make 60,000 - however I’m not sure I expect that to be the starting pay right out of college.
@ot_lifehacker
@ot_lifehacker 3 жыл бұрын
From what I have heard, it depends on the setting, experience, location, and so much more. Really, I think it is best to look into jobs in your area and see what the pay trend is.
