Interesting video, but to me there is no context to it, I needed it to some captioning so I know what I was looking at. I only moved to Basingstoke in 2005

It makes me so sad seeing I could have grown up in such a beautiful place. And they wrecked it.

Its a sobering thought that most of the people in this film will now be dead. Any teenagers in there will now be in their mid to late sixties!!

Sadly Basingstoke became a building site back in the 60’s and it’s never ceased since those days. It lost its heart.

God, this is depressing. And I grew up there from the late 70s onwards!

We moved to Basingstoke from London in 1966 into a house which I still live in. It was wonderfull to have not one but two inside toilets. I've always loved it here.

I bought my first house in Basingstoke in 1966......its very different now. I work on the construction of both the new Hospitals, as well as Marks and Spencer in the town centre. I think it's a lovely town and area to live in.

Lived in the old town centre (Sarum Hill) and then new estate (Brighton Hill) for 7 years in the 80’s. The people had a heart, but the town had pretty much lost it by then. It says it all that it was considered ‘The Jewel in the Thatcher crown’. The final nail in the coffin for me was Courage taking over all the wonderful free houses in the countryside around Basingstoke. Hope this never happens to a town again.

God bless Basingstoke people. Sadly the most unfriendly town for cyclists. I have to wait until the roads are empty to use the roundabouts. Have a car or go to hell.

This proves a lot of modern narratives wrong. Brutalist architecture was and always will be, horrid.

Is that South View infant and junior school at 5:25 ? I had no idea there used to be a whole parade of shops where Walnut Way is now. I moved to Basingstoke just as the Oakridge Village redevelopment was being completed, so didn't realise the layout was so different around there before that.

A lovely, friendly market town razed to the ground and turned into a ghastly concrete and steel jungle. I was born in Basingstoke in 1956 and lived there until 1966. My parents knew everyone including all the shopkeepers and had so many good friends there. After we moved in 1966, my parents didn't go back until the early 70s and they just didn't know where they were any more. I'm all for progress but what happened to Basingstoke just ripped the heart and soul from the town.

Lovely old photos, my Dad's local was always the Feathers, he would walk there from Penrith Road where we first lived and then Worting Road where we moved to. Is it still there?

I remember as child growing up in Basingstoke that the family always watched the carnival procession. My uncle Geoff Whittingham owned a toy and joke shop in May Place so we always sat on the wall on the main road to watch it go by. It seemed to take ages for all the floats and bands to pass, then I believe they all finished off in Hackwood Park. I also recall that there would be a mini military tattoo in the park with soldiers, artillery and helicopters. Of course H & S would never allow that in this day and age

So nice to see the Warren, it's where my late dad bough his newspapers. We moved to Reading in 1965 but I always missed Basingstoke. I was born in Byfleet Avenue, Old Basing but the family moved to various addresses in Basingstoke, Sandys Rd, Worthing Rd, Penrith Rd and Shooters Way. What a lovely little town it was back then.

I spent much of my childhood in the 70's playing in the grounds and surrounding wooded spinney's of Park Prewett and Rooksdown. We lived in Winklebury and PP was a short bike ride up Roman Road and across the main road into the hospital grounds which was a massive development. Occasionally we came across a patient (usually around the PP villas) who had managed to evade nurses and wandered outside in a confused state. As the years passed my sister worked in the hospital as a nurse and my girlfriends father (Ken Tarrant) was the head baker in the kitchens. My brother and sisters children were born in the neighbouring maternity hospital, my grandmother needed dementia care at PP and both my parents passed at the main hospital adjacent to the PP site (my mum was at St Michael's Hospice). This video reminded me of the many hours we used to spend as kids just wandering around the grounds and woodlands making camps and collecting conkers.

Back in the days when if you needed a hospital admission for a mental health crisis you usually got one.....the dire state of things now is an absolute disgrace...lost count of how many times crisis teams said we dont like to admit people with your diagnosis and there aren't any beds anyway...not even delivered with compassion but instead with casual indifference..my god you don't want to be needing admission these days because if you have an experience like mine you will just be left very ill and at risk on your own
