Park Prewett Basingstoke - Awaiting Demolition - Video of Images

I spent much of my childhood in the 70's playing in the grounds and surrounding wooded spinney's of Park Prewett and Rooksdown. We lived in Winklebury and PP was a short bike ride up Roman Road and across the main road into the hospital grounds which was a massive development. Occasionally we came across a patient (usually around the PP villas) who had managed to evade nurses and wandered outside in a confused state. As the years passed my sister worked in the hospital as a nurse and my girlfriends father (Ken Tarrant) was the head baker in the kitchens. My brother and sisters children were born in the neighbouring maternity hospital, my grandmother needed dementia care at PP and both my parents passed at the main hospital adjacent to the PP site (my mum was at St Michael's Hospice). This video reminded me of the many hours we used to spend as kids just wandering around the grounds and woodlands making camps and collecting conkers.

I worked in this Hospital for 20 yrs. I absolutely loved it.

That just proves they should never of shut it. I don't hear many psych nurses these days saying how much they love their jobs

Back in the days when if you needed a hospital admission for a mental health crisis you usually got one.....the dire state of things now is an absolute disgrace...lost count of how many times crisis teams said we dont like to admit people with your diagnosis and there aren't any beds anyway...not even delivered with compassion but instead with casual indifference..my god you don't want to be needing admission these days because if you have an experience like mine you will just be left very ill and at risk on your own

Looks like some of the buildings could have been converted into flats, as is more the case nowadays (especially change of use from offices to flats).

Bit late to the reply lots of the building have been turned into flats most of the buildings shown here still stand today . Including the dance hall and water tower
