I remember as child growing up in Basingstoke that the family always watched the carnival procession. My uncle Geoff Whittingham owned a toy and joke shop in May Place so we always sat on the wall on the main road to watch it go by. It seemed to take ages for all the floats and bands to pass, then I believe they all finished off in Hackwood Park. I also recall that there would be a mini military tattoo in the park with soldiers, artillery and helicopters. Of course H & S would never allow that in this day and age
