After White plays his move 74, the normal move for connecting involves sacrificing the black stone on the third line. Your cut at move 75 is correct. After White ataries with move 76, you should normally counter-atari on top (which is a move you had considered earlier) and then push through. This is the normal pattern but the ensuing fight gets difficult for you since White has lots of friendly stones nearby. After White pincers you, KaTrain recommends attaching to the left of White's corner stone. This leads to a successful invasion but the technique isn't obvious.

I have also had this issue on this game. There is something about the way the lower level AI plays that throws me off and I can't put my finger on it. I'm glad to see its not just me having that issue. Great video quality by the way! Keep it up! *edit* I forgot to mention. In your settings you can change the speed in which the AI plays. I have mine turned down so it moves more slowly to mimic the speed at which I play so I don't find myself feeling rushed to play a move.

I did not know we could change the speed. Thanks for the tip! I’ll try to change it around in future recordings Yea the ai is especially weird at the lower levels. Sometimes it’s a strength of a Dan with random moves sprinkled throughout. I had more consistency with crazystones ai than any other platform. Will have to do a video on all ai I’ve played against and rank then

That is so interesting. I was feeling like it was 2 or three stones stronger. Having it six seems really generous for the program. The ai does switch up in ranking. I am still stuck at 2-3 kyu currently since the program is having me play up against 7 dans haha Awesome though!

Cool game! Such massive captures! You convinced me to buy the Just Go game. I played 23 games in Career mode so far and progressively ranked up from 10k to 5k. I probably will gain another one or two stones before levelling off. I'm ranked 12k on IGS and 11k on KGS. So, I'd say rankings on online servers are at least six or seven stones stronger than they are on Just Go. The software is indeed very pleasant to use and the interface very neat and polished. It also has decent game analysis features! Contraband Go, however, advocates against using AI to review your games since it may lead one to copy "good moves" without understanding them. It may still be useful for spotting blunders or getting hints about josekis, although I prefer using KaTrain for this.

Black's move 13 is indeed senteish but for a different reason than the one you explain. If black comes out of atari at r3, you can atari back from the other side (at s3) and if black descends again at r2, you play s2. Black has to turn at q2. You then block at p2 and black is captured since he only has two liberties. (If he ataries at p4 or p3, you defend by playing the other one.) Rather, the reason why the move is threatening is because, if you tenuki, black can atari at s3 and squeeze. That is, after you capture at r3, black ataries at t4, forcing you to fill up the eye at r4. Black then steals the corner by playing s2 and you not only lost the corner, you end up with bad shape. The move only is senteish, though, since black ends up having cutting points and the big move that you can make elsewhere if you tenuki might largely compensate for the local loss after black squeezes and lets you take sente yet again. Congrats for ranking back up!

Yes agreed! In the moment I wasn't able to see the bigger picture (bad habit of my playstyle or just experience in general) But during opening, having black invest several stones to take the corner might be beneficial for white if white is able to solidfy elsewhere with a greater yield in territory. Albeit, this game I don't think that was the case since black already took two 3-4 corners. Thanks you! hoping to hit higher kyu soon!

Seeing you playing against the AI is fun but I'd love seeing you also play live games against human opponents once in a while on a server like OGS, KGS or IGS. This also changes the nature of the commentary since what makes a move good against AI isn't necessarily the same as what makes a move good against a human. What makes a group secure, a connection solid enough, or some territory invadable, depends on the skill level of your opponent, Since they're similar to yours, your assessment are often correct due to the fact that they generally share the same blind spots. AI always has the skill to play the best move but they are dumbed down through throwing random errors that don't have a clear rationale behind them (unlike humans who usually have at least a faulty rationale for playing bad moves). (KataGo can be used with a model that has been specifically trained to emulate the style of a 5kyu player, so its mistakes would make more sense, but I am using the KaTrain interface to run KataGo and support for this model hasn't been implemented yet, unfortunately.)

@indiesn7827
@indiesn7827 7 күн бұрын
This game here demonstrated two things, make sure your groups are alive before attacking (you can waste several moves to ensure your groups alive) and still win and corner side center is a good rule of thumb as it’s harder to control these areas as you go down the list. Reason center is last on the list is you are defending from 4 sides which is very hard to take everything. However in this game, this was my only option as black had already “secured” the bottom and we were already sharing the other sides and corner. So center was the only territory left unclaimed. Now for most DDK games I’ve played against, the big thing that most players do is over extend and leave their group unattended which the AI did in the center. So I had to make sure this group is left without two eyes. While my opponent is struggling to live in the center, I use that to my advantage to secure territory influence in the center hence resulting in a bigger center territory. It’s kinda of the same concept as Aikido where you use your opponents strength/weakness against them while you do very little. Hope this made sense haha

Another nice game! On move 50, you disconnected six black stones that have little influence on the outside and you are allowing black to live pretty much unconditionally with his k16 move, which also takes away some living space for your group on the top right. My instinct would have been to peep at j17 instead (which is a move you indeed considered) since black can't make two eyes at the top (e19 and g19 are miai) and black then has to run out. You can both profit and make your white group stronger as you attack even if he manages to escape. KaTrain agrees that peeping is the right play for move 50 but after black would have blocked at g17, it recommends j18 to continue the attack. I hadn't seen this continuation but it makes sense since if black is allowed to play there, he can then run out and, if he fails to escape, has g19 as an option to live unconditionally at any time (making e19 and j19 miai). On another note, the black moyo on the lower right also is somethings that I would have struggled to cope with. Unlike human players of comparable ranks who tend to "auto-answer" locally, AIs are better at taking sente when they see big moves elsewhere!
@indiesn7827
@indiesn7827 7 күн бұрын
Yes I totally agree with that analysis. It was a very difficult decision for me for move 50. The idea of letting all the trap stones go (mostly) and trying to surround black seemed impossible once it played at H16...at least in the moment it seemed that way. Yes the bottom right was waaaaayyy to difficult for me to enter at that time and usually if I find it too difficult, I try to play easier moves elsewhere. AI does have its moments where the moves it plays are near perfect which (at least from my own experience) sometimes shows me where I can be punished if not playing logically. Thank you again for the in depth look into the game! This really helps me out!

The turning point in this game may have been move 82. There was no need to make eye shape since you were already solidly connected to your living group on the upper left. A stone in the middle left side instead could have had both the options of making a base below, or of running to safety towards the middle group on the right. At the same time, it would have threatened to kill the four black stones above. Black would have been hard pressed to prevent you from realizing all three of those option.
@indiesn7827
@indiesn7827 8 күн бұрын

@pokerandphilosophy8328 9 күн бұрын
Very nice game. Your shoulder hit at move 51 (j9) had me worried. My thought was that shoulder hits are good for reduction, not for stopping your opponent from reducing you. But then, I entered your game in KaTrain, and your move is the AI choice! If white plays well after that, you are forced to give up part of your moyo, but you also secure another part of it in the process while white makes no points and you gain influence to help further reduce white later. So, well played!
@indiesn7827

Thank you for the compliment and plugging in the moves onto Katrain! I am surprised that AI agreed with my move at 51. I was fairly under the weather so I wasn't sure if my logic was as sharp as usual. Hoping that it made some sense as I am still trying to improve my understanding of the game (using Shygost technique). To me, move 51 was needed to save what I could from whites entering the Moyo. I thought if I could save half of my big Moyo then I would still be in good shape of the game. Granted this was a DDK AI, and any stronger player even DDK players might still be able to capitalize on my slow moves in the beginning. Thank you again for the kind compliment :D If you have any suggestions for future DDK challenge that you would like to see, please let me know!

The abstracted map development and fighting back and forth makes it hard for most new players (myself included) to see who is ahead and who is behind. Good thing about this game is that a blunder isn’t detrimental to your overall game like in chess. My answer is going to be more towards training against ai as a good tool for improvement just letting you know :) In all honesty, initially it played a lot of Gote moves. And wasn’t particularly strong even towards the 1K level…at least for my ranking currently. However, the one thing I like about this program compared to online is the immersive environment and the change up in play style from the AI. I found myself becoming addicted to playing my next opponent which really was motivating. Now in regards to teaching you how to play, it has a tutorial for new beginners although I haven’t used that feature yet. Ai plays a lot of random moves which does help train you to notice obvious gote moves vs senate moves. Overall, I don’t particularly use the ranking system too much, as I can’t tell what my true rank is, but I do use it as a means of motivation and to train myself on playing reasonable and logical moves. Hope this helps! Edit: it does get very strong later as the program sees that you’re improving. I even now struggle against some 2-1K games which you will see in the next coming episodes :)

Thanks for the compliment! This was a video that Mochi posted up on his channel, I would recommend checking his stuff out as he does commentary for his games now every so often. This was my rendition for the game :D Yes it was unfortunate towards the end but wait until you see what happens in the rest of the Melbourne games XD

I am new to go and always wanted to find someone who can cover these. I would like to see what it looks like to see these events live.

Hey Yoshiki80, welcome to the game and thanks for staying a bit on this channel! I currently don't do live match commentary but hoping I will be invited to one day. If you would like to see how a live event looks like, I would recommend the Sunday Go Lessons as they usually have professional live games that were broadcast in japan on their channel. There are some others like Baduk Doctor, Dwyrin, and Go Pro Yeonwoo that play their games live and commentate their thoughts to the viewers. These channels have been extremely helpful for me and hoping they will be to you as well. If you need any help, let us know as this community has been nothing but awesome!
