What lenses you were using? I thought I could see 1:4 written on one of them. Several years ago I put a 50 mm 1:1.7 Pentax-M K mount lens with a PL filter on my EF mount BMCC 2.5 k and part of the footage i shot had a gum tree that was about 50-60 feet from the camera, and I could see the legs on the ants crawling on the tree. Those little ants that new 2-3 mm long. I was quite surprised at the sharpness, and the picture had the same vintage look as in vintage film footage without the grain. You can get nice pics out of them, and I found my particular example to be sharper than my 50mm C-NE Cinema prime, and had much less CA. The Cine prime kicks it in low light, but with good light I got nice vintage looking footage using that old lens.

Overexposed. Some were a little overexposed. Film speed should be slower speeds for the lighting conditions. Then as the light fades go faster. The K-1000 is is limited to a shutter speed of 1/1000. Unlike other cameras that ca go up to 1/4000. This limits you to higher shutter speeds and f-stops with faster film. Less play with depth of field. I was an Army photographer back in the late 80s early 90s. Unless I was shooting without a flash would I go with anything faster than 400. Most of the time I would shoot 100 or 125 speed. 400 only if I really needed to. You get much finer grain and can make poster size prints.

Shoot All-i and in black and white. You will not have to worry about color grading and it will be as good as if it was filmed in a RAW format.

PRINTING WOULD HAVE BEEN ON COLOR PAPER , GETTING A DARK SEPIA TONE. IS THAT FILM STILL AROUND?.I EVEN HAD THE CAMERA PICKED OUT TO USE THAT FILM. A ROLLIE, SHORT ZOOM COMPACT....UP 90 mm. BUT A HEALTH ISSUE HAPPENED AND HAD TO GIVE THAT RE-ENACTING

Disappointing! Other than mentioning that he likes to shoot with a tilt shift lens there was no other mention of it. No insight as to why he likes to shoot with it or even a tip or two if you wanted to give it a go yourself. His photos were good but I didn't see anything that was stunning.

Why the heck do they say K1000 when it's (0:24) a KM? Is "K1000" now a synonym for "film camera"? The K1000 (1976) was a KM (1975) with the self-timer removed for cheapness; it replaced the KM. The KM in turn was a Spotmatic with a K-mount instead of a screwmount. All were basically a late 1960's design, out of date by 1976 despite the K1000 being made for years after, and the later K1000s (made in China) were inferior.

About to buy one but the light meter is broken -- how important is this
@ChrisButel4 жыл бұрын
Extremely. :) You can usually find a Pentax k1000 in an old camera shop. The guys at the one in the video actually repair them so maybe you can find a similar shop where you live?
@dukenukem57683 жыл бұрын
Very, unless you want the expense of buying and the flaff of using a separate meter. Separate meters are considered to be "professional" stuff so will cost several times as much as even a fully working K1000.

How do you measure the light indoors and adjust the settings in the flash to it?
@levesz14 жыл бұрын
I know it's been 5 months, but you don't meter (I mean I don't). There is a Guide Number about the power of your flash. Flashes like the above one (contax tla200) can do TTL metering, so it is going to meter the scene for itself, and adjust the power correctly. You just need to dial in the settings you want. I used to have G1, and I was using the sibling of this flash, the TLA140, and I just set my aperture to f4, went real close, and my photograph turned out nicely. There are flashes which can't do TTL metering, then they are always firing at FULL POWER! Usually, there is a little table of settings on the back of the flash which tells you the correct settings. For example, for a subject at which is 10 feet away, you are going to need an aperture of f8 to have a correct exposure with the syncronization of the flash. Real simple. Medium format, and leaf shutter lenses can throw some math at you, but nothing too hard.
@ChrisButel4 жыл бұрын
Hey man. Sorry for such a slow reply. I think Levente gave a really comprehensive answer to this... The short answer was yer we weren't really metering because the camera was doing some voodoo magic to auto calibrate for the flash.

Thanks guys, it’s better having an answer later when you forgot about it

Amazing video! Do you recommend this camera for lower light settings too?
@ChrisButel4 жыл бұрын
Not really... haha the iso is limited to your film stock (we used portra 400) so it's really nothing like a video camera which all have amazing iso performance.
@dukenukem57683 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisButel Not just the limitation of the film, the Spotmatic/KM/K1000 light meter is poor at low light levels. It used a CdS photocell (out-of date in cameras by 1975) instead of the newer types of photocells replacing them.
