I absolutely loved Perth on my first visit and would definitely consider moving here one day. It is like Sydney with far less traffic, people and the shenanigans of a global city. It is also more affordable, though I have heard its health system is not on par with the rest of the country. Another benefit is its time zone, which is more on par with Asian cities such as Singapore and Tokyo

The problem with having Sydney as one city in these rankings is that it's so large and sprawling, it's really two metropolitan areas. East and west. The Sydney CBD, eastern, southern, and inner west suburbs, along with the northern beaches and Sutherland shire make up one half of Sydney. The western, north west, south west, Hawksbury district, Macarthur region, and lower Blue Mountains make up Great Western Sydney. It's a powerhousececonomy in its own right, has a huge population, more affordable housing, and with the continued decentralisation of government departments, more job opportunities. With the international airport set to open in a year, and the planned aerotropolis, the greater west has a positive future. Don't bundle all of Sydney into one category.

Got the money? Anywhere is nice. Otherwise nice place to visit , terrible place to live. Like Wollongong, was a nice town with the best beaches no one wanted to come near. That was how we liked it. Then some people from Sydney with a lot of money decided Wollongong was the place to live, small, got yhe beaches and the mountains and close to Sydney. So come down and join us and bring your money down because we've just bought every beachside suburb and we'll sell it to you for four times as much. Stuff the locals, Wollongong is now southern Sydney now, that'll keep the money flowing.

I don't think there are more than half a dozen CITIES in Australia. Some nice towns maybe but cities?!
@geoinsider6 күн бұрын
@@daweilaotou1269 AFAIK, the definition of a 'city' in Australia varies between states, and the distinction between town, city, and other settlements can be blurry. According to the sources I checked, the number of cities can range from about 80 to nearly 400 depending on the criteria used. But even if you consider only 30 cities, it's still possible to pick 21 of the best 😉
@FromTheGong6 күн бұрын
Depends what the classification is for cities. Some classify a population of over 50,000 a city, example Nowra/Bomaderry is classified officially as a city same with Wagga Wagga, that's officially a city.

I was glad to see such a focus on the regional centres. There are so many opportunities in the large regional towns/smaller cities, but many coming to our shores barely look past the big 5. The Hunter Valley (which Newcastle is part of) has a multitude of job opportunites whether in heavy industry (Mining and supporting sectors), transport, tourism, health care, hospitality etc. Someone could live in a rural setting like Seaham and easily commute into Newcastle or Lake Macquarie for work.
@geoinsider6 күн бұрын

@georgebelakemeny92216 күн бұрын
This list is ridiculous! West Europe is no longer safe to live in, no matter how good is it on the other scales. East European cities are now the safe, family raising cities. Obviously if one wants to get drank every weekend, or high on drugs, naturally a Dutch, or German or Austrian or even an English city would be the best choice but you still have to face the facts that you may be killed at a Christmas market, by a terrorist. And from the East European cities Budapest would be No.1 choice. The best-looking capital city in the world by far, not too big and not too small with plenty of activities from Formula 1 to European soccer and plenty of cultural events from music concerts to opera and many other arts events and not forgetting the many family events as Hungary is the No.1 family and children supporting society in Europe today.
@geoinsider6 күн бұрын
@@georgebelakemeny9221 While it’s easy to criticize Western Europe as unsafe, it’s crucial not to overlook the issues happening in Eastern Europe, including Budapest. In 2016, Budapest faced its own attacks, highlighting that no place is entirely free from such dangers. Additionally, under Orbán’s government, Hungary has seen a significant erosion of democracy, with increased authoritarian control and crackdowns on freedoms. Safety is a complex issue that goes beyond just crime rates-it's also about political stability, civil liberties, and overall quality of life. So, it’s important not to overly rely on biased media narratives but to take a broader, more nuanced view when considering where is truly 'safe' to live
