Correction to the title... the guy on the ground controlling the hoist is the "mechanic." The tank crew does everything but operates the hoist..

Me too.since many moons ago.I love the four propeller configuration. I don’t know why. I never liked the three, which was used during Vietnam ,six, or eight, the J has . I guess because it looks tougher, with the four propeller configuration.

I was daydreaming about a drone to help Ukraine, thinking it simply lands next to tank and starts unbolting the treads... no treads, tank doesnt move. This video at least shows removal of a couple bolts just might do it? @Ukraine

It was a great experience but after a few months the boredom, nonstop woke AFN tv, and crazy work schedule my company had us on was too much even with the $100k+ salary and benefits. But one hell of an amazing experience. Glad I had the opportunity.

Was in israeli artillery, my fire direction center was an m577, and replacing tracks is always the worst thing in the world, no matter what armoured vehicle. The bigger the worse of course. You always bang your body in the armour, and it just never goes the way you planned it to or how they taught you. Just sucks

Yes, we threw a track 20+ years ago in my unit in Iraq. Taking instructions from one of the guys who knew what he was doing, I helped repair it. I was an E-4 at the time and definitely earned my pay that day.
