Sgt. Armando De Santiago, a boat team leader describes the capabilities and purpose of the boat teams that patrol the Rio Grande River at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, TX, 2024 . The boat teams have been a vital asset to Operation Lone Star since its beginning in 2021, and they successfully deter illegal immigration into Texas on a daily basis. The team members act as a highly mobile patrolling force to detect and deter illegal traffic, but also as a rescue team to safely interdict illegal immigrants who they catch trying to cross the border illegally.
