Significant ice formation is expected in the TD, and the slides will likely have a substantial amount of verglas. It’s not about snow. And it doesn’t matter if it was 60° for one day. Temperatures are in the 20s for the Lowe’s.

Yeah, this was the steepest slide I have ever done. It is very hard to capture the grade unless you have this perfect angle from the side typically. This slide is so steep that it looks steep even on film. I have never climbed a steeper or more scary slide. There are a few times where I turned the camera to the side and you could just see it looks like we’re climbing a vertical wall. Anyhow, there is one more video posting next week. I never want to mess with a class 3 again after almost falling down backwards when I was 50 ft up one time. I was at a point where there were no footholds so I stupidly tried leaping forward to grab a ledge but my foot slipped and I started sliding down the mountain backwards. After a few feet of falling my feet caught an edge and as I was being launched back I managed to grab a ledge which stoped some of my momentum, cutting my hand in the process. I continued rotating to an upright position until I was standing straight up on the rock. I was able to barely just keep my balance from falling back by helicoptering my arms. If there had even been a tiny gust of wind or if I had not grabbed that ledge that cut my hand at the last second I would have been done for. Things can go so south so quickly from 0-100 on class 3s. My hands are sweaty just remembering it 😂

I’m told that in those specific sections where you’re using cracks and such to pull yourself up. It is low fifth class moves, but not necessarily a 5th class climb since it’s not mandatory and it’s short lived. It’s very subjective from what I hear. But they’re definitely solid class 4. But I really don’t know what I’m talking about. All I know is that they make me happy and give me the thrill that I’m after. 😂 Next up on the queue is diagonal slide on giant. And finger and tulip. Diagonal what is the steepest and most dangerous slide I’ve ever climbed. Can’t wait to share that one.

There is not many fill up options on this traverse. You have some in the beginning near lower wolf jaw, and you have some coming down after Marcy. Most of the ranges dry. Actually there’s water after you come off haystack and there may be water before haystack, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve done six rounds of 46. I’ve actually done the 115 winter and summer. Did this slide and the Cooper (Copper?) Kiln (Kill?) slide back in June and found this to be the much more compelling slide. Cooper Kiln is quite grown in and has some slippery bits. Honestly didn't find it this slide slippery as you did, maybe I hit it at the right time? Both have gnarly headwalls though. The "ladder" on the monument was much wetter for me but still super doable. There's also a herd path to avoid it if it sketches you out - I made use of it going down. Was this a humid day? I find Bennie's Brook to be almost annoyingly slippery on anything but a bone-dry day now thanks to all the red slime. It's low angle but you can't trust so much of the rock even if it isn't noticeably wet
@BrianHikesAllDayАй бұрын
All the vegetation was wet, almost like it had rained on the walk-in, but there was definitely no rain in the forecast or signs of rain anywhere else so I really don’t understand why the area was so wet. We also started almost in the afternoon and the sun was already baking on that for hours. Very confusing.
@RDJimАй бұрын
You would think all the rock on the ADK slides would be the same. Maybe it's the direction the slide faces relative to the sun?
@BrianHikesAllDayАй бұрын
I think that has a lot to do with the lichen and moss growth on the slide after it happens. The more shady, the quicker, the growth I believe. I think Mountain direction is everything. And also age
