Labor and technology always lead the costs especially if you are developing new stuff. Now it's easy to knock off the technology and yes you can pay labor less for similar quality but you know that YOU want to make top dollar in your profession and know that other people can be paid less to do what you do but do you really get the same quality? I heard that waiting times were coming down so I went to my local AD and asked for an Oyster Perpetual, an entry level watch. I was told that I would have to go on a waiting list. What is the lead in time I enquired and was told “years”. Obviously they didn’t want my business. 5 years ago I bought an OP and got the call in 3 weeks.

They have been using the same movements for the most part for decades. There’s almost zero cost in RnD in them. That cost was paid for decades ago. But advertising is for sure where all the money goes.

Get a top tier replica if it's to be worn and used as watch is intended for. The current top tier replicas is hard to tell the difference from authentic, especially on the wrist. No one will know unless you take it apart and inspect it. If you're a collector or see watches as an investment, then sure... get an authentic if you can afford it but I will never buy an authentic watch again in my lifetime. Complete waste of money and factor in the crazy expensive cost of maintenance and you're better off givin your money to a homeless guy. Clean factory reps can be had for ~ $600ish and look the same.

That’s just not true about the shirts. Material is much nicer, stitching is way better, it will literally last a life time if you wash it properly. Doesn’t mean Ralph Lauren isn’t over priced, but it’s not even close to the quality from brands at Walmart. Rolex is a step above Bulova and in your analogy Walmart clothes are Bulova.

I own a rolex Daytona that I bought in Iran back in 1998. It's still in perfect running condition, and I remember the excitement of purchasing it like it was yesterday. Given the current fluctuations in the watch market, I'm curious to find out how much it's worth today. I'm planning to do a little research to see its true value now. It's fascinating to think about how the worth of these timeless pieces can appreciate over the years, even amidst a volatile market.
