I prefer Killers to the debut, although there are people who will say the first album is better. There are even people who will say the debut album is the best Iron Maiden album, which I'm not having one bit of- there's a lot on the debut I like but generally they wrote much better songs and surpassed it on albums afterward - including this one, which I think is the better of the two with Di'anno. The guitars are recorded much better and sound much better on Killers for a start. Killers to me is the Iron Maiden 'deep track' album. (Murders in the Rue Morgue, Another Life, Innocent Exile, Killers (title track), Purgatory, Drifter).

I personally prefer the first album but I have been seeing a lot of others on podcasts rank killers higher so you are not alone there. It is a great album but I have just never been able to warm up to drifters.

Psychophobia is a really cool track ... Evil Eye ( an edited version ) would have been a cool single ... After being a huge Sabbath fan from the mid 70's I didn't engage with anything after Heaven and Hell . However , I think there are sporadic great tracks throughout the Tony Martin era . He's without doubt an extremely talented vocalist / writer / musician etc .

Thanks for sharing, what about Mob Rules? Do you like that album?
@kevinhodgson8508Күн бұрын
@LairoftheAlchemist ... Yeah , I do quite like that one but I completely lost touch and interest after that ... I saw the Ozzy line up in 1978 at Newcastle City Hall ( UK ) and two nights at the same venue 2 years later on the Heaven and Hell tour ( Bill still on drums ) and then 2 nights again on the Mob Rules tour when Vinnie took over . All great shows but my own musical tastes diversified considerably for the next couple of decades before coming around full circle etc .

Alright you convinced me to try the new Cure. Didn’t hear Blood Incantation but generally don’t like that style of vocals. I found Dickinson’s album a bit tedious at times. Priest had some killer tracks. My favorite was the new Marilyn Manson, totally composed by a dude named Tyler Bates. Nothing revolutionary but he combines elements of genres I like (goth, sleazy 80s metal, post-punk, glam rock, electronica) in a compelling way. Also really dug the new Black Crowes and Jon Anderson’s “True.” New Primal Scream has some great 70s funkied party jams but the album is too long. Liam Gallagher and John Squire put out a cool swirly pop-rock album with Squire bringing the classic tone as always. New Incantation is more of the same killer riffage with croaking vocals going on about stars and darkness.

I thought that Evil Woman by Black Sabbath was totally different from the Crow version. Crow featured a booming baritone Steppenwolf type Vocals, and Black Sabbath do the song with a Cream style Falsetto Voice. The Vocals on Wicked World also have that Jack Bruce style Falsetto approach, and remains to this day the only Ozzy Vocal that does the slide up Jack Bruce Vocal technique.

love the RCA years with ZZ TOP! It seems they got a lot heavier with their sound. Also a quick shout out to Frank Beard. I think he's a badass drummer for ZZ TOP. Probably the best shuffle player to ever hit the tubs. About the theory that he didn't play on XXX is somewhat bias and hard to believe. It definitely sounds like Frank. I have Modern Drum Magazine from May 2004 and Frank stated it was challenging to play on XXX and had to adjust more to the style of Mitchell Mitchell triplets in "made into a movie". Frank Beard stated it was basically a drum solo. It was more challenging compared to his recent recordings. John Douglas drum tech for ZZ TOP stated that they needed Frank Beard to open up to apply more technique on XXX. I think thats enough evidence to convince fans that Frank was not replaced by Greg Morrow.

I haven't bought that many new albums from 2024. Why? Here comes a rant! Well. Going into record stores I take my time to go through what they have. I take mental imagines through it all and in the end I decide what to buy from what I've seen. I take several things in consideration. How interested am I really in the album? How much does it cost? Will I listen to it soon or just put it on the shelf for collecting purposes? Brand new albums from artists often cost several times as much as a used copy in good condition. So I could pick up maybe two, three or four used albums for the price of a new one. Would I really enjoy the new one MORE than several older albums? Often the answer is no. Few albums is that good so it would hold my interest in comparison to several older albums. One solution for those selling new albums? Put down the price. There are albums from 2024 like Judas Priest, Moggs Motel, Michael Schenker, David Gilmour, Blue Öyster Cult that I probably would have bought if the price was lower. They fight against themselves in my world. I could buy perhaps three old Michael Schenker albums instead of the new one which only is remakes. Buying the new doesn't make sense. The market they sell for is limited and becomes more limited because many fans doesn't have all their previous albums and a limited amount of money. Now a new CD cost maybe 20 dollars. Say it did cost 10 dollars instead. The profit for each copy might not be great but I think they could sell many more and help spread the new music which often is hard to do as well. I would certainly pick up more new albums if the price was right. Now this rant might seem like just me having little money and complaining. Well. I could afford to buy more new albums but with the market of used copies it simply isn't worth it. I bought more than 150 CD's in the year and few was from 2024. Some I did buy and are pleased with: Deep Purple with "=1" Magnum with "Here Comes the Rain" Jon Andersson & the Band Geeks with "True" George Benson with "Dreams Do Come True: When George Benson Meets Robert Farnon" Nestor with "Teenage Rebel"
