It seems we share similar feet shapes (paddle feet that is) I had similar issues with sizing. I had ordered a 9 EE based off of the chart and my measurements. It did fit as expected in the length and ball of the foot but the toe box was narrow and crushed my feet during break in (especially my small toe) after break in the toebox (which is luckily tall) shaped out and became wider, I still cant wear thick socks without it being tight but my big toe has plenty of room and no longer have pressure. I will likely have to order 9 F or 9.5 EE in the future if i want a better fit, the waist of the boot, were the arch is, is actually too narrow and my feet lay past the side of the insole, this along with arch break in caused some issues for me that are still present. I wear them to work (Its not a hard working job but i do move and load heavy items regularly) and have had some color change in the leather still subtle though. Hope you continue uploading regularly ill keep an eye out since your stuff seems good!

One rule of thumb I go with is never go full costume. If I wear a snap button shirt I’ll wear boat shoes with it. Never my cowboy boots. Plaid shirts and boots make me feel like a farmer. I just mash it all up so I dont feel like anything other than myself.

Yeah that Thurman last seems like it solves the problems that a lot of guys have with the pnw lasts. If they were anatomical it wouldn’t be necessary to get so wide of a size often times I think. That first pair is great too, honestly I wish I had bought them at the time. I’ve thought about trying my best to recreate them but using the Thurman last at nicks. I wish that had a similar color red leather.

Nick's is a little less expensive for packer boots and they have tan color that I might like to get someday, but the stock model the quick ship or something is maybe the safer bet when curious about sizing issues, etc. Not sure if their wait times are better overall, but maybe. The square-toe cowboy boots might be more comfortable for all day work, but they are not stylish at all. I can't seem to find many that I like the look lately, and I don't like wearing them much in hot weather, either. These maybe people would also find a bit warm BUT at least they could be worn with shorts and not look as dorky as taller riding boots AND as much as I don't like walking in riding boots, walking in these is a smidge more natural or something. But they DO bite in that foreleg pinch area.

Yes! I totally agree, even if I bought a pair of boots with a toe cap, I would still want them to be unstructured. With the exception of boots like the Viberg 310s and the kreosote boots which are all intended to have large chiseled structured toes, I think it’s almost always better to have unstructured because it’s more natural and ages much better.

I have to say that honestly among the other impractical items I wear during the summer I can’t notice a huge difference between black boots and lighter colored boots. Throughout most of the summer I’m wearing long sleeves pants and boots anyways. When I need freedom from the hot sun I usually end up just breaking down and wearing shorts and sandals to give my nervous system a break from the heat.

Very cool boot. I think back in the day I would've minded the toe stiffener issue there, but honestly it looks 100% fine to my eye. If anything, it gives more character (not an excuse for Alden, I've always wanted them to up their game). Consider it wabi sabi - there's beauty in the imperfections. I have a pair of Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill shell cordovan boots, really hard to beat that #8 shell color. I beat them up hard on and off a bicycle. Even with minor cuts, using either Saphir glossy wax or Alden's color 8 wax polish blends them in really well and give them a better vibe.
@calebgasca
@calebgasca 3 ай бұрын
I agree that the issues are so bad to inhibit the enjoyment of the boots. Although I’d at least prefer them to be symmetrical. If they both had toe stiffeners that were a bit too tall then at least when I looked down at my feet, each one would look the same. The asymmetry is probably the part that bothers me, the most to be honest.
