You need to prime the oil filter and check that you have no leaks and good oil pressure. You can turn the engine over with the starter with the stop pulled out. Once the correct oil pressure is registered, you can safely start your engine. Then, recheck your oil level at the dipstick.

Hi, how many settings do you have on that float chamber? I've bodged together a Dutch Maatschappie float chamber with 6 settings (and a thermostat) onto a Refleks body I found and a boat scrap yard with no regulator. But the instructions on the top are worn away - any guesses as to which settings to be used for startup and then running appreciated...
@SailingBlueBird2 ай бұрын
@@gurglejug627 you can start up ar any settings. I never do it on max though, because if the startup fails, too much diesel has ti be wiped out of the chamber before new start up
@gurglejug6272 ай бұрын
@@SailingBlueBird thanks so much. Just to get an idea as to whether the 'new' float chamber is working - if you had to guess, how much diesel do reckon it should feed per minute on max? Is it actually visible in drips per minute? And the cleaning rod - should it's end face up or down and how far out should it be for running? Gosh it's 35 years since I had one of these, all forgotten... but great stoves
@human6.0452 ай бұрын
@@gurglejug627 0.12 litres per hour on low and 0.3 litres per hour on high. These don't drip feed as such, not like the Taylors heaters. From memory, you can pull the cleaning rod half way out and it doesn't matter about the position of the lever. I hope this helps. Nice little heaters. Oh' you can still purchase a new regulator if you need to.
@gurglejug6272 ай бұрын
@@human6.045 thanks for the help and info there. It turns out the settings are all very simple - 1 to 6 = little oil to 'lots' and there seems to be no other effect but linear rate of flow control. Leaving it on 6 allows the thermostat to do its own regulation from there. The heater is working fine after running an hour or so outdoors to clear 'clear out the cobwebs'. Dead simple - and there was me looking for complications. Thanks again.
@human6.0452 ай бұрын
@@gurglejug627 Has your regulator (the non original one you fitted) have a themostat? I have read there are those types of regulators around...I'm interested. Oh' and cheers. Glad you are all sorted. Sorry, had to edit after reading your original comment. Could you please give more details on the thermostate, make model. I guess it's a simple setup, adding the thermostatic control valve, is it positioned inline and before the regulator, is it low down or did you raise it higher? I'd imagine the higher the thermostat the better. Thanks again.

By using 50 ml of methanol you ensure that the stove and chimney is warm which provide good draft in the chimney. That is a good way of eliminating backdraft and smoke in the cabin which is important in a boat. I use the following procedure on a similar regulator but a different pot burner stove for an outdoor tipi tent. I open the control valve just to make sure that diesel enters the pot. Then turn of the valve and squirt some methanol into the pot. I light the methanol and wait around one minute before opening the diesel control valve on the lowest setting. After some minutes the methanol has burned off and the stove then runs on diesel.

I just found your channel and was impressed with your deligence to take care of your vessel. I tip my hat to you, sir. Your harbor is very much exposed....it's amazing that it held together. I live in Mobile, Alabama, USA, well away from the Gulf of Mexico (my house is 300' above sea level). My 42' Beneteau sailboat, however, is docked in Pascagoula, Mississippi, which is about thirty-five miles from my home. She's docked in a well protected marina in which she has ridden out many hurricanes. Hurricane Katrina, which hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005, caused a twenty-five foot tidal surge in our harbor. My sailing buddies and I have a proven hurricane plan that has keep our boats safe for many years. I suscribed to your channel and will enjoy following you. Congratulations on safely riding out the storm.

In my first videos i did not talk to the camera and i am still not 100% comfortably about it. But you appear relaxed and natural. I am a big fan of the norwegian coastline. Dramatically compared to the danish. I did visit Norway i couple of times, some 20 years ago. One of my biggest sailing moments was making it all the way into the Lysefjord. On my to do list, is a trip to Lofoten. A dream for many years. About the refleks, as soon it is installed, it does not feel that it is taking up so much space than it looks. I am happy about the simplicity on how it works. And it heats very very well.

Thanks for the great over night report. Luckily up in North of Jutland we didn't have much devastation as you down south. I checked my boat in the afternoon and didn't bother to check in the evening. Those sirenes and alarm sms's are making people more scared and insecured and I don't really fancy this.

how thick are your coolants hoses that goes to the boiler? Doesn't the Nanni have very thin inlet and outlet for the coolant above the pump? It's like 10mm inner diameter only? Does it matter? @@SailingBlueBird thank you -- it seems like the service agent I've been talking to about the boiler installation has given me bad advice -- he told me I should connect it at the to of the coolant water pump (in your engine there is a few inches of tube that connects the top of your coolant pump and your thermostat cap) -- that same place exists on my engine Nanni Kubota N3.21 -- the issue is that, at least on my engine, the inlets there are 10mm flat barb -- I think this is to increase pressure and allow easier to bleed air out of the system at the highest point of the coolant system (which that place is). It sounds like you have a boiler installed? Did you add the hoses connecting to the boiler between the bottom of the engine coolant water pump and the radiator? thanks~
