Great video. I just spent many hours hammering out the bronze Cutlass bearing. I wound up using an expanding reamer. I'm happy to see the composite cutlass is much easier to remove. I think with alignment and the flex coupling your cutlass bearing is going to last much longer.

My ship is set up with long like that thanks for sharing. My old cutlas bearing need changing too. Question about how long the composite bearing last for you
@SailingBlueBird
@SailingBlueBird 6 ай бұрын
My guess is, that the composite would Last at least 25 years. That is the warranty on other composite products. If the bearring would Last that long, is not fir sure, eg. if your engine is not alligned.

BTW I have same propeller as you, 16x13 two blade, I plan to change 3 blade 16x12 (already asked offers), some shops offered 17" propeller, I think, it's a bit too large. My axle is looking same as yours, not sure, if I have to get new one... I plan to go tomorrow to show it local specialist shop.

Hi mika oyry. My Propeller is 15x14 and fitted for the previous engine. I have visited local propeller shop today. The question is, if I should go for a 3 blade or the 2 plade. I was told that I needed a 16"- 2 blade or 15" - 3 blade for the Monsun hull combined with the MD2030 and a gearbox ratio 2.35:1. The 3 blade would fit fine, but will create a drag meaning up to 1 knot of speed loss under sail. The 2 blade, if placed vertically, will have no drag. The rule is that you need at least 20 mm space between hull and propeller to avoyd propeller noice. And that is ecxactly what I have. Have not taken the descision yet. I was also told that the axle gets worn, especially the part inside the blackjack.

@@SailingBlueBird I have same gearbox ratio. I'm still considering 2 blade as well... Need to research more, what is the effect. 1 knot is too much, I think there is 500mm total space for propeller, a bit difficult to measure. I wonder, if anyone has 2 blade 17" on their Monsun

@@mikaoyry9144 Sorry, told you something wrong. Got an email from My prop dealer. He calculated my prop to bi 16x12, 2 blade. I will fit it on friday and give you a feed back on the installation.

Deleted your question by a mistake... Trying to remember: Yes Im happy with the HR. Used to sail Albin. The Quality and design in any aspect is just far better than the albin.It is a really comfortably for liveaboard and sailing. Im more into cruising than racing.

Or just fit a socket in the tube from the inside add extensions and punch the bearing out without sawing
@SailingBlueBird
@SailingBlueBird 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. I had that in mind, the first time i Was fighting with brass bearing. But in the Monsun the inside tube has a real small diameter (32 mm) and i couldnt find any sockets that could fit. The only other option would be to visit a maschine shop. And then I could just call a professionel boat mechanic.

That doesn't always work, my housing has a ridge (Najad 361) on the inside so you cant fit anything that is big enough.

Normally you have to remove the two grub srews from the housing, they are originally installed there.... should point this out to the self-makers.

I just aligned my Monsun engine. Just fit back axle and coupling, but leave 4 screws open (those, which connect to gear box), then with the feeler gauge you can see, which way you should move engine. Usually rear engine mounts are a bit compressed down, so you need to adjust rear a bit up. Good to check also engine mount condition at the same time - I have ordered parts from UK maybe you know "parts 4 engines" web shop. I have also MD2030B. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooWyoqOkf7-YnM0

For alignment, my plan is to put in a bushing in the stern tube, to keep the axle fixed ecxactly in the center. Using your technique Im afraid your enginge will be aligned too low, because the axle weight will pull the couplung downwards? Or?

@@SailingBlueBird Sorry, I loosened screws, but left them to support weight of the axle.
