In 1955- somehow- I ended up at a matinee- the movie would be unknown- called a “ sneak preview”&- I was 7? So the matinee ended up being the French horror film Diabolique- with French subtitles- black and white. Then? I think the next worst movie came in 1957 “ Old Yeller.” That - was traumatizing when they have to……. Anyway- as a teen I had a friend who had bought a 16 mm projector and turned his basement into a movie theatre along with posters and everything- theater seats too. Ironically at 16- 1964- she got ahold of Diabolique- so my second showing- it was fun to watch everybody start to panic- and I knew what was coming. This movie haunted me for years- all I’ll reference is “ the bathtub scene.” The wife - who was to be the real victim- walked this slow methodical walk down a dark hall-afraid of what she might find in that bathtub? The camera takes you with her and what she found and as the storyline progresses, all the teens now in this homemade movie theater were either screaming or holding a blanket up to their eyes. Back then- nothing was like that on tv. It had a remake in the 90’s w Sharon Stone & Kathy Bates but I highly recommend- get some bff’s together, turn out the lights, and watch the original version of Diabolique. And re The Exorcist people were running out of the theaters crashing thru the plate glass doors because it had been unheard of to talk about satan and the Catholic Church. A co - worker of mine- an orderly in a hospital- told me he was so upset he couldn’t sleep for days.

Totally cracking up about Tigs pranks and flunking out 3 times lol. Her wit and talent knows no bounds. It's hilarious when she says Fortune as she terrorized her neighborhood and smoking cigs everywhere lol

I previously haven’t been able to watch scary movies. However, in the last couple of years I’ve started listening to a podcast called Ruined with Halle Keifer and Allison Leiby in which one hates horror movies but likes to know the twist and the other loves them, so she describes what happens throughout the movie & they talk about it afterwards. It’s so funny! And now I know what’s happened in many culturally relevant horror movies that I don’t actually have to watch. I’ve now listened to so many of their podcasts that when I recently watched a scary movie, Halle was narrating it for me in my head and I actually found it less frightening! 😂

Psychological thriller with Audrey Hepburn called Wait Until Dark! Audrey plays a blind woman and she was fantastic. I loved that one. I don’t like scary movies either, but I do enjoy some like that when very well done.

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I've heard that many people who believe in the conspiracy theory that the moon landings were faked also believe that Stanley Kubrick was involved in the filming of the faked footage. And of course he couldn't talk about it openly, but according to them he hid clues about it in The Shining. (I don't know about his other movies, but they seem to always mention The Shining.) Supposedly they talk about things like the design of the carpet in the hallway, certain room numbers, etc. I'm sure if people make an effort they can find out details about this in the crazier recesses of the internet...

My only real experience with tie-dyed anything is around 40 years ago in college, and we would often go to the local mall. In the music store there was a girl around our age working who always wore tight, tye-dyed tee shirts. And she wore them incredibly well. I was never a religious person, but I still remember standing there thinking, "There, at least, is evidence for the existence of a benevolent God"...

I am definitely a member of the "Traumtized by Jaws" club. Forever scarred. Our local TV ran a weekday afternoon movie at 4. There was an Edgar Alan Poe story about a woman buried alive. I think Vincent Price was in that and it was pretty creepy.
