I don't think everyone is ready to pay for games in early access, but since you're asking, I'll explain why I bought early access to Pax Dei. I enjoy sandbox-style MMO games. Pax Dei is the first such project in many years, and I decided to support it in this way, hoping that the developers will deliver on their promises and Pax Dei will be my last game in life. For a one-time payment, I gained access to the game until the end of early access, with a declaration that the early access phase would last at least a year. I’m aware that the game has bugs and lacks many key systems. I also wish updates were introduced faster and in a more polished manner. However, this doesn’t stop me from having fun. Considering the time I’ve spent in the game, I believe it was money well spent. My only concern is that the developers might cave to players who want Pax Dei to become yet another theme park MMO. If another sandbox MMO were to come out now, I would probably take a break from Pax Dei. However, my current options are the unfinished Pax Dei, returning to a sandbox game I played for years, or a theme park MMO. From this group, I chose Pax Dei, and so far, I’m happy with that decision.
@adoptableplum
@adoptableplum 21 күн бұрын
@LatoTheMMOVeteran if you can justify buying an unfinished painting, and still enjoy looking at the "pencil lines" then more power to you. i expect more for my money. and devs that can't keep their promises are just simply overreaching. i hope you enjoy the game as you seem invested in it. hopefully i will join if they ever decide to call it finished.

@@adoptableplum I’ve explained why I bought Pax Dei, but I wouldn’t say I’m deeply invested in the game. I enjoy it, I play daily, and I plan to continue as long as the developers keep fulfilling their promises. If I stop enjoying Pax Dei, I’ll stop playing. Now, here’s what I tell all my friends when they ask whether they should buy Pax Dei: I always say-don’t buy it. That usually surprises them, and they ask why I’m saying not to buy it if I enjoy the game so much. I always add that the game is still in early access and requires a lot of work. If someone is unsure about buying it, that means they shouldn’t buy it. Otherwise, they’ll get discouraged, and no matter how great Pax Dei becomes at launch, they’ll likely never give it another chance. I also say that if someone loves sandbox games and is absolutely certain they won’t mind a small player base, a lack of many core features, bugs, and other unfinished elements, then they should consider it. Otherwise, I strongly advise against purchasing. If you read the comments under videos about Pax Dei, you’ll see plenty of negative opinions about the game. In my view, this happens because people bought it who never should have played an unfinished game-especially those unfamiliar with the sandbox genre.

I don’t understand why it’s hard for you to immerse yourself in Pax Dei’s atmosphere. After all, in reality, no one has their class written on their forehead, just like no one is forbidden from learning whatever they want because some higher power dictates it. You are defined by what you can do, and your skills and equipment determine your 'class.' If you want to be a tank, you wear heavy armor, a one-handed weapon, and a shield. You also need to dedicate a lot of time to maxing out your blocking skills. If you want to be a healer, you equip yourself with light gear that enhances healing spells. If you want to be a hunter, aside from fighting with weapons, you learn archery and skinning. It’s simple, logical, and natural, unlike the rigid class systems of theme parks.
@dismaspickman773
@dismaspickman773 23 күн бұрын
@LatoTheMMOVeteran I have immersed myself in much of the game, but I do like character concepts that have a place and purpose and require choice. As example, if you wanted to make a traditional wizard style character, you could do that, but there is no reason not wear the heavies armors and heft the biggest weapons as you throw fireballs at bears, etc. Pax Dei doesn't need a rigid class system--true, but unless someone purposely pursues a hybrid style character (which should be a jack of all trades, master of none--not master of all) you should be strongly encouraged to pick a lane... and that could very well be done through gear (primarily). As obvious examples, cloth for +magic, leather for speed or crit, and plate for highest levels of protection. Maybe things have changed in the last few months, but when I was there... everyone was a tankmage, and swapping articles of clothing and gear in battles, which is pretty dumb as a mechanic, and certainly not immersive.
@LatoTheMMOVeteran
@LatoTheMMOVeteran 23 күн бұрын
@@dismaspickman773 I'm not sure if I fully understand your point. Are you suggesting that certain skills should enhance the power of others-like tailoring making spells stronger? To me, that seems illogical. The idea of exchanging gear during an expedition in a world where all magic is tied to items feels exactly as it should be, and I can't imagine it working any other way. Likewise, I don't understand why this would reduce immersion; in my opinion, it actually enhances it. As far as I recall, the developers have mentioned something about different schools of magic in the past, but I could be mistaken. If schools of magic were introduced, there would likely be two options: either students of a particular school could cast spells without needing a specific item, or their proficiency in that school would enhance the power of spells tied to it. I hope such a system will be implemented someday, but let’s not forget that Pax Dei is still in early access.
@dismaspickman773
@dismaspickman773 23 күн бұрын
@LatoTheMMOVeteran No, I do not think tailoring should enhance magic--at least not directly. What I am saying is that if items are used to create a class (you are what you wear and the weapons you choose sort of thing) then someone might choose tailoring as a profession in order to craft their own magic bonus gear. So, a person who wants to be a tank/heavy warrior type might choose metal armor crafting in the same way. These choices might be more convenient for them, but neither player would have to use those professions at all if they chose not too. Personally, I don't really care how the devs approach specialization, only that they allow for it in some way that is exclusive--where if you want to be the best caster, you would use the gear that would give you the best bonus (in this example, cloth). This will address the homogenized tankmage problem, where everyone is essentially the same unless a player decides to purposely gimp themselves for the sake of RP/theme. There is nothing immersive about a world where everyone is essentially the same--the best armor, best spells, best bow, etc. Variety of player choices and playstyles will make the game world feel lived in (ie, immersive).

I would prefer to not waste time walking when I could spend that time adventuring and enjoying myself. It is my contention that the market should be more like WoW and I could go to a town and browse all wares for sale everywhere and then receive the item by delivery once purchased (won at auction). Everyone has their own opinion. However, I can attest to more people voicing their displeasure for travel than almost any other portion of the game.
@bildur1
@bildur1 Ай бұрын
Pax Dei has always emphasized that travel and meeting people were key factors for the game. The idea is for the world to reflect a social sandbox, where the emersion comes from traveling and interacting with other communities. The economy is player driven, and requires craftmen to spend a good deal of time perfecting their skills. I think I disagree with your concept most because you feel your time is wasted by travelling and scouring the markets for those pieces that you need, but you completely ignore the "time wasted" for those craftsmen to level and level and level to make you those pieces. It would be a sorry state of affairs if the devs are just trying to make WoW with better graphics. And while travel is certainly a time sync, it is nothing compared to mining pure iron, chopping entire forests to make coal and littering the entire plot with chain gloves for hours upon hours, all so you can get online and be able to get your item delivered in 5 minutes of browsing... I think this may be the wrong game for you

Pax Dei is a sandbox, not a theme park, so as long as the developers stick to creating a sandbox, there will never be a global auction house in Pax Dei. A global auction house might seem like a convenient solution for players accustomed to theme park-style games, but it destroys the economy, removes logistics from the game, and eliminates one of the major reasons for PvP. That’s why I hope the developers never introduce such a system.
@mattbuyshouses
@mattbuyshouses 28 күн бұрын
@@bildur1 I disagree with your sentiment that I ignore the time for crafting. With over 1800 hours in-game, I'm extremely well-versed on how much time goes into crafting. Level 40 weaponsmith was no minor task. However, the simple idea (currently) of selling items that are identical to every other crafter (or gatherer) in the game emphasizes my point of the waste of time to go outside of your home area to get resources. Add to that even hard to gather items like sigils, exotic mushrooms, plants etc. will all be plentiful in every market stall in the game. I have multiple alts and outposts in each biome to get what I need. Markets provide two services. First and most simply, a way for those that do not wish to spend the time it takes to gather or craft items quickly and second, a (perhaps distant future) way for the devs to monetize the game further. You've undoubtedly noticed they will take a fee from the sale of each item (akin to the rake at the casino) which, while not directly a form of currency, takes a bit of gold out of the economy which would likely at some point be used to pay for the monthly spend. Either way, my original opinion still stands and there's no shortage of players that voice that same opinion on the regular regarding travel being one of the biggest downsides of the game currently. Also, it's one that the devs have directly addressed in many different comments and even on the roadmap for some type of fast travel system. Beyond that, many of the developers hail from both WoW and Eve and their systems will likely have at least some commonalities albeit not identical. All that being said, I will play games if/when/how I choose, and for all of those, no one else's opinions amount to a hill of beans. Add to that, we're playing in Early Access and the developers have a very fluid roadmap whereby they take input from everyone and create a game that appeals to the masses. If you don't voice your opinion, you end up playing a game that someone else may like more than you, and that's your choice. Me? I like the idea that the devs seem to listen to any and all valid points and I've personally seen my input come into realization. Not saying I have any pull whatsoever, however, one minor thing I clammored for since the beginning was adding the skill's XP numbers to be added to the UI and lo' and behold, look what we have now. So, in summary: I'm simply stating that my opinion was different than Eltarii's, not that he should play a different game. He's absolutely free to have his opinion even if it's in direct contrast to mine. At the end of the day, there's what... a few hundred games or so released a year? If in the end, this doesn't pan out or becomes less enjoyable to me, then I might just find one of the other games to play.

@LatoTheMMOVeteran a global auction house would bolster the economy many-fold by adding many, many more buyers and sellers, not to mention the increased selling fees from more and more frequent sales of goods. Logistics need not be a part of the game as it adds little to no value to the player. PVP is now and will always be opt-in and will have very little impact on the market. Players who wish to engage in PVP will likely shop in the market for gear to use during PVP, and having easier access with quicker deliveries means those players could get into battle that much quicker. I’d contest that someone who wants to put their skills to the test in PVP battle has much less interest in walking for an hour or two for the potential of a battle that may never come to pass. How often do you visit Lyonesse? And how often do you run around in what appears to be an empty space? Over the last week, I’ve been there at different times of day at least 4 times and have not run into anyone. I know there are others there on occasion but it isn’t a hot spot by any stretch of the imagination. No, PVP looting market goers won’t help the economy or the market stalls.

@@mattbuyshouses Perhaps I would agree with you if Pax Dei were a completed theme park and not a sandbox in early access, and if we weren't limited to just 10% of the map. I also disagree with you about the role of logistics in a sandbox. Take a look at EVE Online and how its player-driven economy operates. From the perspective of an individual player, fighting other players is optional. But for large clans, conflict in a sandbox is always a necessity. Access to resources and logistics are the main flashpoints, and if you remove these, the game loses its core essence. Moreover, with a global auction house, regional diversity and the need to acquire specific resources lose their importance. Want to build a castle in the desert? Why bother gathering wood, clay, stone, and other materials when you can simply go to the auction house and buy everything you need? Why think about where certain goods will be in higher demand to sell them at better prices when everyone will just use the auction house? Why worry about backpack space when you can instantly sell everything through the global auction house? I understand that people who have never experienced a sandbox might long for features from a theme park MMO, but implementing such features in Pax Dei would kill the sandbox and create just another theme park game. For this reason, I sincerely hope that the developers of Pax Dei will stick to the vision they announced and continue building a true sandbox rather than transitioning to a theme park experience.
