@@JoshBernhard it was certainly fun but quickly brought home the reality of having to ‘make everything’ you see in each scene and often in different scales. It’s a huge amount of effort to make physical props and then try and make them work and move when required without wobbling and stay in focus.

@@Spaceman042 I'm in awe of what you were able to do, truly. I can understand somewhat the monumental effort and time involved, and then I'm sure the reality was double that. So glad you preserved it and were able to share for all to see.

@@Spaceman042 Is this footage from a high-quality scan of the original film? Was it scanned in standard def or hi-def?
@Spaceman042

@ not it wasn’t a good scan,lol, just simply projected onto a small area and refilmed with my digital camera. It was just done as a bit of fun to see the film again after so many years, maybe one day a proper scan could be done.

Brilliant I'm thrilled that someone owns and is taking such good care of these wonderful props from a classic sci-fi series. I realize Martin Landau was the star. But, Victor Bergman and Maya were fantastic characters, albeit in different seasons, so you must be super pleased. Cheers

@@Spaceman042 50 years old? Surely not! I remember watching Space 1999 on TV during its original run. Looking back, the production values on all those Anderson shows, especially the props, models and special effects, was out of this world. Has anyone designed a cooler looking spacecraft than an Eagle? It's a shame Ron Moore hasn't picked up the mantle and relaunched the show as a movie or a series. After all, he did admit to stealing the intro credits for Galactica from Space 1999 😃

What could have been really great would be the first 2 or 3 episodes of the show as 2 hour movies. What has happened to all those cuts? The high quality productions are masterpieces and worthy of the big screen.

Good news and Bad news: The good news is that Fox likes the optical effects, the bad news is that it used up your line of credit.

That's much better, more action on the planet. However Jenkins from Merchandise wants to see some kind of pet or little robot thing walking with the astronaut and more shots of the monster to push our toy line-up this Christmas.

@@joew4295 LOL, there was a robot being built as the hero needed someone to talk to, however it was never completed and the parts that were made were heavy and difficult to move. Not small as it was man-shaped and looked like a human skeleton design which I thought would look unique until a similar design in The Terminator turned up! Mine was a bit friendlier looking though.

I don't think Ladd at Fox will be encouraged to extend another line of credit again based on what I see what with no optical effects done and very little money left to do it. If Part 2 is better I might, just might be able to get Disney to take over production. We'll see...

All the digital and AI imagery used these days doesn't do any justice to the hard, difficult proceedures in the making of these models and realizing them on screen--maybe some of those shots did look cheesy by today's standards--but they were more interesting to watch.

I saw someplace that when someone opened up the cargo module after quite a number of years, they found some cement dust still inside! I think it might have been the the original book, a regular paperback, but don't quote me on that as to my source. For all I know, it could have been Starlog magazine!

@@Spaceman042 Thanks! I watched it over and tried reading those articles briefly by pausing. Also great to see you holding the main ship, Terrahawk, that exited the Terrahawk's White house silo bay. Sad to see Tiger Ninestein's lip was torn, but otherwise in decent shape for 30 years in an attic, along with Kate, Mary, Yuri the Bear, and more. Great that Julian Bell kept those historical items rather than tossing them. Great video, thank you! I'm a lifelong Terrahawks fan, but also fan of the other classic shows too.

Great clip and thanks for uploading. I really liked the show, in particular Year 12 which for me had better costume designs (building on Year 1) which had more colour, like the jackets and I liked the women's slit-skirt and boots uniform and Command Center sets. Certainly spaceship design wise the Eagle Transporter has stood the test of time well as a good looking design, a functional multi-purpose Cargo ship with 'Fighter' capabilities, plus the Moonbase Alpha design and eagle Launchpad Hangars exterior and interiors.

WOW, thanks for this. Brings back memories. This was my second car, and after a Fiat 126 this was luxury. Must say I wouldn't call the rear end weird, I'd reserve that for the Cherry saloon (hated that car). I'd call it streamlined and very practical and I couldn't understand why most cars didn't have such a rear end profile. Many cars nowadays you'll find have this type of rear end because it is the best compromise shape for maximum streamlining and interior space. In fact my present newly acquired car, the 2nd gen Honda Insight, is virtually an updated version of your Datsun, same dimensions aswell. At the moment I am restoring your Datsun's sister car, the Sunny 120Y coupe. They both had the same 5 bearing 1171cc engine but the Sunny was rear wheel drive and your Datsun is front wheel drive. I loved my little Cherry coupe. The hatchback body was fairly new in those days and it fascinated me that it could easily be changed into a van and you could even sleep in the back if needed. Even though it was a small car I remember the bonnet looked quite long from inside, and I loved that. You must have dropped very unlucky with yours as these Datsuns are more known for their reliability, and for knocking the British car industry into the ground partly because of it. I seem to recall the one thing I wasn't too keen on with my Cherry coupe was that top gear wasn't quite high enough (or is that low enough?), it was quite high revving even at 60mph. I consider them an absolute classic. Well done on restoring this one.

Hi Richard, thanks for the message, glad you liked it and nice to hear that you are working on a 120y, which appears to be a more popular model. When I wanted to buy my first car my dad asked me which cars I liked, but I didn’t really know anything about cars apart from there being two driving around on the roads that I thought looked really good! When he finally identified them for me one was my 120a coupe and the other was your 120y coupe! Lol (I then thought that there must be 26 different Datsun cars called 120 something!) It’s been 15 years since I bought the car and started working on it, and she is still working today. Hope yours is on the road soon. Cheers David

The model was painted many times during its life, numerous times during the filming and then afterwards. At the time, around 1979, the model wasn’t considered very valuable and was simply an old prop that wasn’t required anymore! Many 1999 models and props were given a paint for their appearance in a big public display, by people who simply didn’t care about it being authentic to filmed condition. This model sold at auction in November 2021, the new owner is unknown.
