Ya I think I read it in Honey bee Democracy by Tom Seele. 😂 the only bee book I have read actually. a few of the small pamphlet books but that was the only real bee book.

Nice job on the roofs and tarps! I also like the holes in your top covers, helpful in summer to cool the hives. Do you block the holes in winter so the bees don't get chilled? I have a similar tank to feed my bees just put it on an ATV so I don't have to pull that weight. Good Job on your bee journey.
@dcsblessedbees23 сағат бұрын
Yes I block the vent holes in the Winter, I close them up with some foam-rubber stuffing and my Lids slot over my Winter feeding shim kind of like a box lid closing them down. That way the bees can still use them to draw dryer air in with out it being so cold. With the "Shelter" set up kind of like a tent the air above the hives stays a few degrees warmer so the air they are drawing in isn't quite as cold. Plus being in the sheltered area of the trees helps keep more of the Weather off them. Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you enjoyed your time. Blessed Days...

I see what your saying, I tasted a bit from the center of the bag it didn't taste sour so I think that once it's dried out. I'll use a little bleach in my water mix that way it'll help kill off any yeast stopping the fermentation. I'll spread this out with the dry stuff in all the food shims and let it finish drying then and from what you all tell me it should be fine. Thanks for the input.

I like the recommendations other have given. What if you put in the oven on a very low temp? Would that dry it out and stop the fermentation?
@dcsblessedbees3 күн бұрын
It could, I actually tasted the sugar and it doesn't taste sour so I think if I dry it out and add a little bleach to my water mix, I can use this distributed out with the rest of the dry dry sugar. Thanks Phillip.
@noahsarkansashomestead3 күн бұрын
Sorry to see that DC, I wonder if you dried it back out the alcohol would evaporate out, but would have the yeast still in it, so you would have to boil it to kill yeast when your ready to use it.

That was the same thing Randy said melt it down. add some bleach. Thanks buddy, Blessed Days...
@rodneymiddleton96243 күн бұрын
I would melt it down and add a little bleach and vinegar then use it.
@dcsblessedbees3 күн бұрын
So melt it down to a slurry and add a little bleach and vinegar will stop the fermentation? It is still on the lighter side sent wise. Thanks Rodney, Blessed Days...
@rodneymiddleton96243 күн бұрын
@ melt it down to 2:1 with heat to kill the fermentation process then add the touch of bleach and vinegar and it should be fine.
@BradfieldsBeeYard3 күн бұрын
Less than ideal but my gut feeling is the honeybees won't care. Stored pollen ferments in the comb, right? Seems like it could be beneficial to their "gut culture". I only buy sugar as I need it so haven't had this problem but if I did, I would mix five gallons, open feed, and see if they come to take it.
@dcsblessedbees3 күн бұрын
This is scrap sugar from shipping and packing so it's real cheap so I get as much as I can when I can. This is the first time I have had it ferment on me in the bag. Thanks for the input, Blessed Days...
