You must know the deserts or deserted places are more dangerous. In risky zones or deserted places, there could be check points by military or cartel gangs. Military stops are legit and no issues. Other people would demand money to pass. Very sketchy. Personally I've never encountered them. Beyond Puerto Penasco (state of Sonora) is a lot of desert. As you go south, you'll go through the state of Sinaloa. I'll let you search on that. But any points south of your destination can be sketchy. That can happen in many states south of Sinaloa in remote areas. Stay on the "CUOTA" highway and you are safer. Cuota means toll (pay).
