Some people's found the Zeiss much sharper .....maybe there are variations in the Swarovski EL models ?? Thanks forte tip. ( I wanted to buy a Swarovski EL 8.5x42 . But now I'm not sure about the sharpness.....)

The 10 x 50 EL are superb, the resolution really impressed. Make sure its Swarovision version of course. Open bridge makes one handed use really easy.

10 years after and Sony mirrorless cameras ain't still catching up with DSLR sync. But there is certainly a way; and it is by returning back to solenoid actuation curtains. We saw the last solenoid actuators on sony SLT cameras and Canon and Nikon are still using them, making the shutter curtains travel only for 1 to 3 miliseconds (DSLR mirror flip up 1 milisecond, 2 milisecond curtain sweep and another milisecond mirror down) Mirrorless with solenoids doing around 6 ms, while sony fully mechanical curtains complete the exposure stage in about 8 miliseconds. Which doesn't sound much either but it's literally the time a bird the size of a sparrow takes to cross from one side to another side of the sensor hopping at 3km/h filling a quarter of the frame surface on a 400mm lens. This means that if you're shooting before the sparrow has hopped off, the sparrow will not be in the middle of the frame because from the time the sensor is exposing it is already gone to the other side and probably even got the beak or some part out of the composition. But it doesn't stop there. Unlike DSLRs, SLT and Mirrorless cameras will need to switch from live casting to exposure cycle where they have to close the sensor in order to start the exposure phase of the shutter cycle. Closing the curtains is already around 3 miliseconds, moving the slit is around 5 miliseconds, and closing the sensor again before turning back the live cast is another 3 miliseconds, this is instead of investing 4 miliseconds to take a 1/8000 photo, a sony mirrorless of today (type a6700 a7iv) take 11 miliseconds. Focal plane servos (which is what sony uses) are a lot slower and noisier than solenoids, but they have advantages, like more precise movement, anti jam design and compactness. I still prefer the solenoids, because as crazy as it sounds, I did get much better results shooting wildlife with the A200 for the sole fact the mirror cycle took only 4 miliseconds, than with the A77II (6 miliseconds) and A7IV (12 miliseconds) despite these latter ones have great burst modes with continuous AF. Great video, and easy-to-understand explaination, but I think Sony has fallen off as far as "purebred photography" goes. The A9III was the answer we were waiting for.

Could have done Zeiss v. Zeiss v. Zeiss - by including the 35 mm f/2.8, which is half the weight if the Loxia but with AF.

In mechanical shutter mode, after u press the shutter button, shouldn't the front curtain go up (close) first to prep for the shoot then come down to let the sensors be exposed, followed by the rear curtain dropping with a time gap preset in shutter speed (i.e. 1/800s)? After these steps are finished, the rear curtain will then go up again to let lights come into so as to appear visible to the viewfinder ?

I bought the Zeiss 10 x 42. Everything you say is true. The conquest do exactly what you say, they bridge that gap between not much good to wow. I love my set. Absolutely perfect for the views I want and I don't regret having parted with the money. As soon as you view with them indeed that outlay is justified. Excellent product.

Superb video. It would be nice to see how the anti-dust function behaves (newer sony cameras). My guess is that the front curtain closes and remains closed until I turn the camera back on. Then the 2nd curtain resets the whole thing back to original state.
