I see Mihawk's attack as a special type of slash. It had a weird green color and was dealt with strangely. Being able to cut anything is less than being able to cut only what you want. Zoro has yet to reach the latter. That is what was in mind when seeing Mihawk finally do something. So i think that slash was meant to cut a Whitebeard, not a Jozu. That's why Jozu didn't immediately get cut in half imo. Whitebeard's strength is his family, that's why he didn't need to move. That is the distance between Mihawk and Whitebeard being measured.

And yes as per my incipit i can't help but disagree with thoughts of Imu, the supposed main villain of the friggin void century, being defeated before getting to the void century's flashback itself which can only happen in laugh tale as we know joyboy left his own laugh tale there. Defeating Imu before being able to understand him/her would seriously ruin everything, just like a war for the world being followed by a war for a throne would be really anticlimactic, kinda like got season 8. The attention on Tequila Wolf tho was appreciated, it really flew below everyone's radar for more than a decade, hell almost two. It having to reach laugh tale might be an issue tho, namely beacuse two years ago the end of the bridge was in the east blue and i think that's quite far from laugh tale still.

I think Shanks is using Luffy as a pawn to reach his goal. He knows that he can only get the One Piece trough Luffy, but will sacrifice him on that way. I think Shanks crew will be the hidden endboss from the start of the journey. The story will end with Luffy giving back his strawhat to a defeated Shanks laying on the floor after an intense battle. What better way to show that Luffy became a greater pirate, then besting Shanks in battle.

Your theory is truly awesome, but it depicts him too selfless. I still think he has some motives of his own. I do believe in the dark Shanks-theory.

Databook states vista has swordsmanship skill that rivals mihawks. Mihawk D riders have three options 1. Vista strength rivals shanks making vista yonko level 2. Mihawk is 5th commander level since Vista negated and fended him low diff in marfineford and databook states his sword skills rivals mihawks 3. You have to admit that just because someone has better swordsmanship doesnt automatically make them stronger which is the only argument you have for mihawk > shanks
