You have to realise this was only 2 years into her career. Many people in the audience will have heard her on the radio. Many people may of only heard How Will I Know which is an upbeat track. Maybe Saving All My Love. There will be quite a few people in the audience that will have not heard this voice before. Hearing a voice live hits differently from the track. This will have hit them like a bus. You rarely got a standing ovation being such a new artist back then. That speaks volumes. You only hear a legend. But you have to remind yourself, this was 2 years in. I know no one who had that effect instantly in their singing career.

That's when you realise that amazing singers sound amazing only with certain songs. That's a fail for me. That's one of these songs that's Whitney cannot sing well. And that's why i will always love Celine Dion better because she has a real singing voice. Whitney can push a note and shout but her singing voice was not that great for most of her career.
