The companies such as book publishers will put whatever the cheapest art on their products as long as the public keeps purchasing. For most, an authentic book cover would not matter, for their main concern is the text inside. I would advise artist to move away from idea of making a living from selling to companies that use it to promote product. Instead, flip to using free AI for greater creative thinking and making art that people will want for the merit of the art, instead of product.

Art, ultimately, is self-expression. AI has no self to express. There will always be value in expressing one's self in art, and people will appreciate that aspect--and pay for it. Commercial art, by contrast, mostly exists as a marketing tool (not that there's anything wrong with that!). As such, its value will always be in how effectively it helps move the merchandise, not in its creativity. The easiest, cheapest way of producing it will always win out, and unfortunately that's AI.

Surely this goes against copyright laws where you aren't allowed to reuse or modify the image. Surely an AI is doing exactly that as an AI doesn't create it just copies. Either way, AI art is really rubbish and it is difficult to control it. I guarentee that you are 100 times easier to instruct. It's also greed from companies. It's great for someone who is just getting an image for a school project or inspiration but an AI can't produce the life that a professional artist brings...

I used to learn art in college, later I switched career over to programming, but still kept drawing for fun. Now I create an AI model that draws in my style, and unfortunately, I found out for all it worth, that AI is much superior over me, and if it is not for my own fun, I completely see no need to use my drawing skill as a mean of profession. But then, I'm not a professional artist so probably I'm not the one to be able to judge on this subject.

Love this, thank you for posting! As someone who has lost 80% of their business over the past year due to AI and big tech changes, I hear you loud and clear on this. 😞 I am coming to the conclusion that the best path forward (aside from regulation and governmental provisions) is for us to contextualise art as much as possible. Just as you said, following the artist's process, story and inspiration as context will be the differentiator in many cases.

i lost my job at the ups sorting warehouse last year when they replaced us with automation and ai, and im not even mad. for years ive came into work and thought to myself "there has to be a better way for them to sort packages than this" back breaking shifts every 5 hours around the clock and although they paid well and we had union bennifits it would boggle the mind on how they were even turning a profit. also the amount of broken or lost packages were as high as 25% of what would come in on the worst days, and there was nothing we could do about it because of the pace and the amount of people that would handle every package, its always been a numbers game and honestly im glad they found a way to get it done without working people to the bone for what was probably the most inefficient jobs in the country for how much labor was being allocated

Hope your life is better at least? AI seems to be better for the bottom line, but if you don't own the company, how is it better for workers? Did they find you better employment once machines replaced you?

Do not post/take pictures of your art spread the word artists. Until there is a bill passed for ai stealing art to be illegal. Ai doesn’t “create” it just puts together things that already exist in the physical reality whether it be from mapping out our brain to copying what was out already on paper, it’s illustrated plagiarism. And anyone who says it creates is bs. Without an already existing thought or idea from someone ai is dead. Artists of today should hold private no phone viewings galleries. Technology is the death of artists and the death of artists is the death of ai art, because without us there is no idea.

There is some good news regarding A.I. A few days ago, Salesforce is creating the software for drones that focus on wildfires. They will spot a fire in the forest no larger than 3 ft. diameter and notify another drone with water to put it out before it grows. Also, many CEO's talks about open source A.I.'s that are created rather quickly due to the fact that they have no restrictions that larger companies have. This is the primary way A.I. will be democratized. I also believe that there will always be a demand for human made art. For instance, if you read a story or contemplate a painting you know that there were real feelings and emotions poured into the work. An A.I. does not suffer so there is nothing to relate to. Human work could even be more valuable as art becomes cheaper and more common in peoples lives.

You should start copy righting your art work from today and not sell it to anyone as it is your source of income, as AI is too stupid to improve on your version. OTOH, I don't think your woke overlords will come to your rescue any time soon, if at all.

Another point for people not in this domain. 90% of all startups in YC are AI driven and the point is to automate human actions to the point where 1 - 2 people are a required to work as data operators.

I am in the world and agree that openai and otehrs are stealing your work but until some laws are implemented taht criminalize this there is nothing people can do. Even before meta decided to feed the AI with stolen works, IG's algorithm and demands were harmful for creative processes. And I'm afraid it has now spread to every other existing social media. Twitter has become just as bad and tiktok is just worse. That quote from Toy Story 2 "You can't rush art" is true, but Meta and the mega corporations don't want art, they want products, no matter how cheap they may be

I feel like the entire creative community has been robbed, and as a result, many are now losing their jobs. Yet, I don’t see much complaining or legal action. Sure, you can now exclude your work, but no one asked for your consent beforehand. My days as a programmer are also numbered, just like countless others in various fields where AI can replace human workers-an impact that grows wider with every update.

Yes, through the lens of our own individual human experiences and our human consciousness, which makes it into something new. AI is not human. All it can do is the mixing part. To me that is not art.
