“New ways to charge us to live here.” Bullshit. I’m an SD native and every penny I’ve invested in this city / county / state via taxes has been returned 10 fold. Those taxes keep our standards of living up. Also, your pricing on things is weird. I have 4000sqft and pay less than $200/month to SDGE. I have an EV too, and no solar. Family of 4 and we cook at home. So I don’t know what you’re doing to make a $350 utility bill. Same with milk and eggs. Get a Costco membership and organic milk and eggs for much cheaper than what you’re paying at Ralphs or Erehwon.. Idk. This whole video reeks of “dumb white girl problems”..

Thanks Emily for the info on La Mesa! It's very informative as I am from North Carolina thinking of retiring to California in the next few years. Yes Emily, school district is very important for me as I have a 9 yr -old.

I love it here, I do not own a car, so many of your reasons for not liking it here are really only for those who insist on driving a car around, which is totally unnecessary here. Although, I would like to see a major expansion of the MTS system, still it is okay along with an electric bike I see no reason why a family should feel obligated to buy a car, sure if you just love the act of sitting in traffic, go for it, but I do not like sitting in traffic, so I prefer to not drive.

Affordability depends on the source. Some lists have Boston more expensive. Some less. The top 10 cities are generally the same. We are moving from Boston and so far, San Diego seems less expensive. But taxes are definitely higher in California

I left San Diego in 1997 you could still buy a home for 180k, I would never live there again, also your real-estate taxes are way to high, I now live in WV 35 acres with a house was about 250k taxes about 800 a year, no permit to carry a firearm and no taxes on firearms, great hunting and fishing and the best whitewater rafting in the world not to mention the Hatfield and McCoy trails for ATV and side by side riding.

San Diego is becoming a big, expensive dump. It is deteriorating rapidly. The quality of life is nowhere as it was 20 or 25 years ago. Also lots of migrants from the war-torn areas of the world eritrea, ethiopia, Iraq basically the whole Middle East they like it here because it's the climate is similar to what they had back in their native country. THEY TRIY TO ENGLISH but have a hard time speaking English. IN Many neighborhoods, you definitely need to. Speak Spanish. Downtown San Diego and other neighborhoods, you will find large encampments of homeless people living in tents. Be careful not to step in human waste as you walk past these areas. And you're ordinary folks aren't the friendliest in the world either. They can be pretty snobby and arrogant.

You were spot on...the one thing you didn't mention...we moved to Alpine 15 years ago (we're both native San Diegans and retired) homeowners insurance is hard to get (we've changed at least 5 times since moving here)... after the Cedar Fire, this is considered a high fire risk area! We had Allstate for over 40 years...they dropped us after moving to Apine! We have to go on CA Fair plan for fire, then still get insurance for everything else. That being said, we love San Diego and would never move! Our son and family moved to Texas, they lasted 18 months. Everything was less expensive, except property taxes, almost three times as expensive! We also have the illegal immigrants to deal with...but...we LOVE it here and would NEVER move! ❤️🩷🧡

Who and their partner are consistently, year after year, making $125k a year each? Probably a pretty small percentage, smaller than the percentage of single San Diegans making $250k a year.

lived in San Diego for 44 years and around 2009 was when it started getting bad around Obamas 8 years in office along with the inflation increasing. the last 4 years everything has gone up and keeps going up, so the check to checkers are ending up living in the cars or homeless, the amount of people living in the cars now is unbelievable . all the newbies think this is how San Diego is, but they will never know how it was before all of this.

A Caveat, to those watching this: First, it was recorded a whole year ago. Second, she seems to be exaggerating these prices considerably- I live in SD, and it has NEVER been as bad as she paints it. Third, it’s a year later, and prices have dropped considerably- gas, for example, averages about $4.79/gal, with a $55 bill to fill an average tank. Real estate IS high, but median prices are actually just below $800,000- not much different from ANY OTHER place people WANT to move to. I’ll add that I’m retired, my kids are grown and gone, and my wife and I have no mortgage (we paid it off) or car payments, and we live very comfortably on retirement income of $67,000/yr. That’s well below the National median income. But she’s right- DON’T MOVE HERE. It’s already too crowded!

I live in La Jolla California, which is a very nice suburb of San Diego and across the street from me is Trader Joe’s at Whole Foods organic brown eggs at Trader Joe’s for $3.99 there are ways to get around some of the prices you stated. it is the best place in the world to live for weather and I have traveled all over. LaJolla is a very sleepy town, so it has that vibe unlike LA which is crazy. Proximity to skiing, Vegas, Grand Canyon everything is in driving distance ….. it’s crazy expensive man. It is the jewel.! And I am a conservative, Republican Catholic and attend Latin mass (which is extremely hard to find in this liberal Vatican ll era!) so I can tell you , you can still be conservative here as well! Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family...

You do realize that all these other cities and all these other places across the country send their homeless here and a lot of transients come to San Diego or Los Angeles because of the ideal weather that we have compared to the rest of the nation so of course we're going to have that big problem and we've always had a lot of issues and problems but I've been around the country I've been to Florida and it's not what everybody says it is I've been to Chicago far worse than even LA I've been around and still to me San Diego overall is a far better city than most across this country So keep on babbling and if you don't like it here peace out head on out go to Arizona go to New Mexico Go to Iowa

Born and raised here and none of this is true. Every cost is in fact the governments doing here. we have never had a drought ever. everything is a scam but you can get way lower prices than what is said in this video. Crime here is a constant forever and yes you can touch them. that no penalty thing goes both ways. When dealing with criminals be one. The greatest unsolved crime is random acts of violence. I didn't see anything if you beat a thief. Homeless is also a scam for money from our government here. The cold water is exactly what you want on a hot day.
