Hello Bo, this is a wonderful video. Thanks for your lasting work to get beginners on the way. Comfortable to use brake modules. BUT: In my opinion it is quite expensive to use one Märklin "signalmodul" for each brake section in the layout. Thanks to your inspirational tutorial I thought on producing an own brake power ... To my knowledge brake power is an assymetric negative DC power, smoothed to lets say 14 V. After some efforts I realize that with a tricky but simple combination of 1 diode (cuts the positive part of the digital AC) and 1 capacitor (smoothes the amplitude to about 14 V) based on digital power and ground as delivered by the central station. For convenience I established a brake power wire and can now switch from digital to brake power wherever on my layout I want. One restriction: This DIY brake power also requires transition track sections to avoid shortcuts of brake to digital power. These sections are implemented by an isolated middle rail powered by digital power combined with one diode. I learned: cut digital power in the track operates the trains and neither shortcuts to brake power nor to common digital power. To test my brake power I ended up with a small oval railroad line with 3 blocks. All of the blocks have a fully functional brake section with 9 cm transition zones on both ends, an operational startup-blocksignal, and a safety stop section (operational distant signal to plug in) . For a single block I needed 2 diodes in total and 2 out of 4 M84 exit switching groups including their feedback connectors. Using no signals or signals whithout safety stops requires only 1 M84 exit group and its 2 feedback connectors. -- To total it up for the whole oval layout: 6 M84 exit switching groups, 7 diodes, and 1 capacitor. 3 feedback track sections (circuit tracks or tracks with electric separation of the outer rails) to serve the M84 feedback connectors. Now 2 trains operate round the oval since hours fully block guided by themselves bypassing the central station. I see the locomotives slow down gently if nescessary and hear their braking and starting sound. All whithout any braking module. Thanks that you motivated me to finally enjoy this. Regards Rudi P.S. the complete brake power & layout wiring scheme as pdf from a proud beginner if you are interested.

Top Video as always! Though, I have a weird problem, when I change the settings to 8 adresses like you do in the vid, this works indeed, but when I delete the decoder and try to connect it again via MFX, it doesn't find the decoder anymore! Any idea what do to about that? Didn't change any other settings nor dipswitches

I really like how you thoroughly explain how to assemble the track segments and also how the two shorter track segment (the curved and straight) fits with the turnout, however, without the track segment for decoupling there is hardly any need for a side track for shunting ! - please continue to create your videos as they are very informative to watch and a merry christmas to you and yours.

Can you run 2 trains at once? With the layout
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 13 күн бұрын
Hi James, if you are running digital - yes easy. If you are running analogue, then yes if you separate the power and make power zones. Hence, in analogue you could have two rings with crossovers for two separate trains, but with digital you can have two on the same ring. Enjoy ;-) Bo

Hi Milton, Sorry for the late answer. Did you figure out how to make it work? Otherwise, a couple of hints: You can try to delete the locomotive from the MS2 and re-register. If this does not work. Try with the locomotive alone on the track and use the "Find" under locomotives. If this does not work - often unfortunately a reset of the MS2 might be needed. Did this help? Enjoy ;-) Bo

Hello Bo, yes, I have several advanced topics. Due to my house sale falling through, my main model build is on hold, however, automatically running with manual interaction is my interest, whilst running temp layouts on my table. I am trying to use three to five locos, in a macro route. My goal is to have a setup similar to the one you show in episode 1 automatic control. I am trying to setup with constant sound when the locos stop etc. Because I can only use one loco in this type of setup, my goal is to link routes in macros so that several trains are able to continue their sounds, speeds etc., without my intervention. At the moment I am stumped! Regards ……….TonyH

@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 13 күн бұрын
Hi Charles, I mostly find the tips by studying the manuals, the website and experimentation. It often takes some time to experiment and make a video. Some also comes from experience as signals work similarly - even across manufactors. I think the tip is to try it out, read the manual's and be patient. If you dont find a solution - look around and there are others who found it. As a model train community it is important we help each other this way. Enjoy ;-) Bo

Hi Linus, I do not know of any way to use automation software like rocrail without the sensors. You can use other control stations instead of the Märklin Central Station. Hi David, I would guess you have connected the brown wire to the wrong end of the contact track. See here for the most common issues I encounter with contact track: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHewiKt7hdKSlbs. Alternatively, there could be a poor connection between the 3 rails that work and the fourth - or you mistakenly put a red insulator the wrong place or side. Enjoy ;-) Bo
