Unboxing UP ES44AC (Märklin 38440/38441)

This video takes a look at the new US class ES44ACs from Märklin. You can find it is 3 different variants from Märklin at this point in time: Märklin 38440, 38441 and 48442. In this video I show the Union Pacific (UP) variants: UP 7495 (Märklin 38440) and UP 7912 (Märklin 38441). These are great heavy freight locomotives that looks awesome on the layout. Great locomotives with everything from sound to light and dynamic smoke.
Interested in hearing your opinion and experiences with the latest Märklin BR 194.

I really wish Märklin made 2 rail powered locomotives. I remember when I got a chance to check out a Märklin locomotive in person and being really impressed with the quality.

Hi Eduardo, Merry Xmas to you as well. Yes - I have changed the Lego pillars such that the tracks is centered. I used some "PLATE 1X2 W. 1 KNOB" e.g. 6066097 to at the sides with a standard 1x2 on top to hold the track. Enjoy ;-) Bo

Hejsa Casper, teknisk er de ens med modeller af to forskellige lokomotiver. Du kan bedst se det her 7:25 i videoen. En har flag og de har forskellige antenner, AC og farve på fronten. Ellers er de ens mht. lyd, motor, osv. Lyden når de bremser er bremse lyden - sommetider vil du også høre diverse blæsere i lokomotivet eller andre lyde... Hygge ;-) Bo

Hejsa Søren, Men du kan montere sporskift lys som kan vise sporskifte stilling - der er 2 modeller alt efter hvilken farve hvid du ønsker Märklin 74470 (kraftig hvid) eller Märklin 74471 (dæmpet hvid/gullig). Jeg har ikke lige en video som viser hvordan, men kig i manualen: static.maerklin.de/damcontent/a5/ea/a5eab7c51052ff106e01df0fba0f4c661583241716.pdf Bemærk du kan også bruge Märklin 72720 sammen med MS2, men så bruger du ikke MS2 til at skifte, det er ikke digitalt og der skal en masse ledninger til. Men dette kan virke på er lille layout. Som jeg forstår det kan Märklin 72720 vise med lys indstillingen - men jeg har ikke prøvet denne kontrol boks. Håber dette hjælper! Hygge ;-) Bo

Bo, er nu købt de små lanterner og monteret dem på skiftes sporene, men normalt siger separat strøm, jeg har Taget strøm fra skinnerne og det virker, har du nogen kommentarer til det?

​@@s.egstrup Det virker fint at tage strøm fra skinnerne. Da du har en MS2 her du begrænset strøm tilgængelig og dette kan blive et problem hvis du har for mange ting på layoutet på samme tid. Du kan så koble dine lyst til separat strøm. Hygge ;-) Bo

432,000 lbs =216 tons

Hi Cory, agreed 432000 lbs is 216 short tons. I used long tons - metric tons it is 196. Not sure what the difference is on all these, but suspect I normally use the long tons or metric tons. However, It is some very heavy locomotives. Enjoy ;-) Bo

I’d like this loco, but the era just does not fit… and that would not be so bad if Märklin would have a good variation of corresponding era freight cars. But running the era 3 cars with era 6 loco is not nice. So I have to stick with my three rail conversions from other brands. Got videos of them, if interested.

Hi Aaro and Eino, indeed it is best when the era of the rolling stock fit together. Fortunately, Märklin have some upcoming freight cars for these locomotives (Märklin 45665) and you can also add cars from other manufactors. Would like to see your converted locomotives. Enjoy ;-) Bo

They are nice modern era Locomotives but do not run them while pulling Union Pacific boxcars like marklin 45646 nor TRIX 24900 those cars do not fit the role.

Hi, I suspect that the most common load for these modern locomotives are container cars. However, I do not see Märklin making those. The matching cars that Marklin are making are the Märklin 45665 UP hopper cars. I think I saw some pictures where these were actually used with these locomotives... Enjoy ;-) Bo
