I just stumbled upon this and God why I just found it up until now. Because I love to highlights and put all the highlights in my Obsidian as my resource notes. And then I am breaking it down the isolated facts from one book to another because they have a lot of different words with their definitions. And suddenly I felt like my Obsidian became a graveyard of notes. But watching this, I feel like I am getting a validation that I needed the most. Thank you for the video 😊

How do I write the model? (see 23:11)I seem to be unable to start a new line to write Title, and so on. Can I paste the entire model you've created somewhere? I am italian, thus I have problem to understand immediately every insctruction and advice, but you should speak a bit more slowly, people if are interested do not get bored even if you keep a slower pace. And for those who need to cram as much information as possible into the shortest time to tell themselves that they have learnt a lot today and have been hyper-productive and did not waste their life, they can always speed up your video to x2

Being alone with your thoughts is huge. Couple that with light physical exercise and you’re onto a winner. Some of the greatest creative minds and academic thinkers have credited walking to some of their “aha” moments. But I’m sure you could exchange walking for swimming or riding a bike. I even have some interesting thoughts while jogging in my training for 50k trail runs. I noticed earlier in the year that I was just feeling unsettled. I had been consuming too much garbage content, so I decided to take a 45 minute run without my headphones. Since then, I really look forward to my “raw dog” run. My writing is slowly improving and my sense of inner peace is through the roof.

Geography's so cool and is definitely an underrated subject. It never came across to me to start consciously learning about it 'til I came across this video. After all, the Earth is so cool and we are its dwellers. Why not be more familiar with it. I'll start with learning more about my own town and expanding from there.

I've been handwriting Morning Pages for 188 consecutive days today, and I can say that it has brought my life into focus, and many new ideas for essays and fiction have emerged. It is for me a life-changing habit now.

Actually I have a flag system when I read something. I have bought a Scan Marker. I scan the lines from the book. There is a program on my iPhone that the scan goes into. Then I email it to myself. I have a document for each book. This helps when I am looking for material for my writing. The main reason why I do not underline the text, is becuuse it messes with the scan.

Hey great video, thanks for such a neat system. I just have one question related to tags and indexes, do every index come from a tag or can you create an index directly? For example I have indexes (I call them "map of content notes) for every book I've read and I have there a link to every single note of the book (both full notes and resource notes). Would you use a tag with the title of the book for this purpose? Thanks!

Love this simplified approach, especially the reimagining how to use Tags as links to other notes. I have a lot of complexity in my Obsidian vault as I use it at work to manage a complex project (it's like an operating system!!) that has many inter-dependant product components , all of which are in un unfinished state and need a mind map to help ensure customer requirements are met and previous related notes are not lost. I anticipate once I have finished refactoring my set up to adopt your approach I will end up with a very long list of Tags in my Tags folder. Do you organise your Tags into a folder structure to help you identify which Tags you have created or do you leave it as a flat list?

Jesus Christ sacrificed His life on the cross to SAVE you from your sins, don't waste that sacrifice. REPENT and seek a genuine relationship with God, not just religion. 1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing.

Ahh bit the really prob comes when all your hobbies are leisure and you never know which one to do...or you find yourself picking one more often than the other leaving you feeling guilty that your not more invested in the other especially when it's project based. I'm a knitter/croceter and a reader/writer. I always struggle with whether to knit or read, or write or read. I hand dye yarn and sell it on Etsy but it doesn't sell much. I also find it draining to focus on selling and marketing..

This video was extraordinarily helpful; I so appreciate the no b.s. approach! I knew this program would be really valuable for me but, was feeling overwhelmed by all the possibilities. My only question is if there's a function to repeating the title of the note a second time in the body of the note?

This is the biggest problem of my life, I am a medical professional but for 4 years i have been learning 3d softwares because of the rush of dopamine 3D art gave me........I try to quit 3d art but i just can't...i have reached intermediate(in some areas advanced) level at this point in 3d art.........My medical career gets severely affected due to my 3D hobby, as i get clients for 3D/VFX work.....problem is these 2 fields are very very vast on their own, i am trying to survive keeping my 2 legs on 2 different boats I am also a singer, Gym freak, Skater, physics and economics enthusiast........but these are minor interests. Although i was trying to balance out for a longs time, this video was really helpful i guess

why do you have the default location for new notes set as main notes? Don't all notes start rough?

When I say rough, I mean you're jotting something down quickly just to not forget. The most common one I'll be writing is a full-length one, so it makes sense to be default, but you can always change that.

18:45 there's a similar concept that a lot of autistic people take part in to bond socially with other people (it's not part of the official diagnostic criteria or anything, but still more common than in neurotypical people): it's called parallel play, where you spend time with another person in the same space, but doing unrelated activities. One might be reading, the other might be drawing, for example. Sometimes you chat/make a comment about what you or the other person are doing, but both are free to partake in their own activity without feeling the obligation to engage in prolonged, uninterrupted conversation.

Thank you it's a very interesting and enlightening perspective. I would like to add that I think in order to come up with creative original ideas in a certain domain we must go through the process of thinking about what we want to find to make the goal more defined in our brain so it constantly searches for a solution , for example I want Write a paper on economics and I need new ideas I define that goal so while I'm going about my day in school or anywhere really I can capture something that sparkles this new idea , because our brains tend to think to solve problems trough pattern recognition

1. Remember about ACTIVELY rewriting concepts in your own word. Why? - it is the way to check your understanding of the book. EXAMPLE: I think, therefore I am It is not about copying this quote, you should process it. Your task is to make author's thoughts yours in order to make it some part of you. 2. When you use the method of ATOMIC NOTES remember that is not only about conceptualizing. The magic happens, when you connect this ideas to others. The best way to do it, is to put your handwritten notes into apps such as Obsidian or Notion. It can improve your understanding and remembering. SUMMARY: - Each time when you start to make new notes don't copy new concepts, process them into your own worldview. After that, try to connect them with your actual knowledge. For me, milestone dea was that knowledge is not only other books, articles or essays, but (maybe especially) your experience of the world - YOUR relations with the others and the way how YOU look at the world.

so is the full note the summary of whatever it is your are consuming from the source materials?

It can be, but it can also be an important takeaway, a look at a recurring idea, or maybe a thought you had related to the source notes.

"Originiality" is basically the writers' version of "artstyle". I draw and paint on a level that I could do it professionally. And I see all these young artists or professionals stressing over artstyle. I never got it, because all the advice given about it "just draw, you will develop your artstyle". But it seems vast majority of people don't believe that or can't wait. They want to develop that artstyle NOW. Doesn't matter of their skills or taste, they need to develop it now or else they won't stand out on Instagram's feed and algorhitms. But all they can do is to copy their favorite artists. So... what's the key? There has to be something specific other than "just draw". And there is. Subject matter. Subject matter is basically what makes your artstyle. Even if you have the exact same way of stylization as dozens of other people, you can do something they are not: Drawing different subjects. Right now, doing portraits of pretty Pinterest girls in a neutral expression in a pixar/anime artstyle is the trend. People try to do "their take" on it. And 99% don't get attention and are generic. Once you see 30 different paintings of the same photo, you get really sick of it and just scroll past... But what if there's something else than a pretty Pinterest portrait? What if you draw that pretty Pinterest girl doing an autopsy? Or being a pirate while a cannon ball flies past her head? Or... what if there's another person in the photo?!?!?! 95% of artists seem to be too intimidated to even try drawing two people in the same photo at once. That's too much work for a single picture. And... thus their art is generic. It's lifeless, soulless. It's just pretty pictures. I might want to put it on a wall, but I won't think about it. I won't obsess over it. Not a single modern artist seems to have done that for me with their art alone... Unless we're talking about movies or video games. Not drawing. Not painting. Not writing. Writing. I want you to think about this now from the writers' perspective. What is the key? Subject matter. Almost all the "icks" and "problems" and "pet peeves" and criticism of modern writing boils down to the generic and soulless subject matter. Tropes galore. Mature themes handled with the care of a clocksmith with arthritis. Most heavy handed social commentary that's just about pointing and laughing. Overly complex magic systems. Overly complex science fiction. Overly self-aware. Overly subversive. Brunette white boy twink vampires. Modern writing has a huge subject matter problem. So if you want to stand out, if you want to make something that matters and people will read, it's ALL about the subject matter.

AMAZING VIDEO. Best and easiest guide for Obsidian and smart note taking. I copied the template, I really liked it. I even think the Status tag is actually very important, I changed the names from baby, child and adult to seed, plant and tree though, just felt weird with the whole baby idea haha. I'm very exicited to start taking notes, specially now that I am about to start taking online courses for a few different subjects. Thanks so much for the video!

I'm currently doing a lot of hand stitching making a quiet book for my child. The current pages I'm focusing on are weather and the continents, and I made Montessori-style 3-part cards to go with them. It's been fun working on that stuff. One thing that may be helpful is something that another KZbinr, JashiiCorrin has done with her habit tracking. She uses a low bar - high bar system. So while the end goal may be an hour a day of each of these things, setting a low bar that's much more attainable can help foster a sense of accomplishment and may keep you from giving up because you can still see you're making progress.

About the alarm clock, I use my watch. It's a connected watch but it's via bluetooth so it reverts to a good ol' watch at night and it vibrates (or bips if that's your jazz) in the morning. Probably obvious but most people already have a watch with an alarm and never use it for waking up, maybe because they don't realize it? About the pens and papers, I use to get my ideas when I'm walking or running, outside. So I got into the habit of ALWAYS having a pocket notebook on my, at all times. It sits there useless in my pocket 99% of the time but when an idea strikes or I remember there's an admin task that I have to do by the end of the week, I'm glad I can write it down and transfer properly when I'm back home. No need for anything fancy, I got a pack of three pocket notebooks for 1€, the paper is crappy and there's not many pages but it doesn't have to be fancy or look good. Fancy is at home, at the desk, when I organize stuff properly.
