Your comment on Malta is spot on. And sorry to break it to you, but SMRTV (the Sanmarinese broadcaster) is reportedly considering a withdrawal in 2025. Adding a potential boycott by the Netherlands, we will see 35 countries next year in Switzerland (I can't see any of the absentees returning, except Montenegro maybe). Yes, political voting sucks, which is why juries did more good than harm to the grand final results this year. And I don't think that televoting giants like 'Rim Tim Tagi Dim' or 'Cha Cha Cha' eventually not winning has anything to do with the televoting-only semifinals. I don't believe that juries would have given many points to any of this year's non-qualifiers. My preferred argument for bringing juries back in the semifinals is to encourage countries to send more professional and qualitative entries, because that way they can't rely on entertainment & gimmicks alone to get a good result. Instead, the reason why the massive televoting favourite did not win overall for 2 consecutive years is simply because we had another overwhelming jury favourite, which was rarely the case before 2023. Sometimes the televoters get their own way (2018, 2021), sometimes the juries (2023-4), sometimes they compromise (2016, 2019). That is how the 50-50 system works. Whether that system is fair is another story...

I really hope EBU will make some positive changes to encourage countries to stay and come back. And I believe that Switzerland is a good place for positive changes and comebacks. Nemo already invited Bulgaria to Switzerland. San Marino is sometimes underrated, despite most of their entries not being good. But it's really harder for micro states to get more points. I also believe that returning of the juries in the semifinals will encourage sending more professional and jury oriented entries. That will give more balance in the finals as well and more chances for the fan favorite to win. That was my main point, but I didn’t describe it well... Some countries will try and already tried this year to send more televote oriented entries just to qualify without caring for juries points in the final. And this trend will grow for less consistently successful countries. It causes very few jury favorites from more successful countries and big 5 that will eat all the jury points each year and will have bigger chances to win. Btw I heard that the jury's selection had different criterias and was more diverse this year. Those positive changes were visible in the results. Can't wait for your top after the show and your comments :)

@linsteps I want to applaud Nemo for calling out EBU on its decisions regarding Eurovision 2024. "Eurovision needs fixing" is now another iconic winner statement next to "This is to music first" and "Rock n' roll never dies". Imagine if the Eurovision 2025 slogan will be _Eurovision fixed_ lol (it will still be _United By Music,_ but hopefully that will be true next year...). Your explanation about jury-friendly balance makes more sense now. Thank you for making it clear. The change in jury criteria might be the reason why entries like the ones from Ireland & Armenia were rewarded by them. Was that change done because of last year's controversy? If yes, it is a positive development. I have always been saying that juries should be more open-minded. To close, my own top 37 after the show will be delayed for some time because I have my exams in a couple weeks from now. After my top 37 I will try to upload my eliminated songs top for 2024 within July.

@@dimidrugg9592 Cool idea for slogan from Nemo's quote. Tbh I think Sweden was just impassioned to create a new slogan this year. I think those changes in jury selection are really connected to 2023 results. And I think EBU doesn't want ESC to die, so they will do more positive changes soon. Best of luck on your exams! I have them soon too, so I wasn't too active this season, and won't be for next month.

We should've celebrated maybe arguably the best field in Eurovision in recent years. Joke entries, for lack of another word, were not all jokey, had something to say, and there were hardly any weak songs. If Norway can come last and If you're really bummed after some NQs (AUS, DEN and CZE for me most), you've got a decent field. It was a mess. But as long you're labeled "country name" politics are hard to keep out. Ukraine experiences something that we all empathize with, and Israël is doing things that can't not colour your judgement. Maybe you share a language and culture with a neighboring country, etc. Maybe we should not use country names, but broadcaster names.

Regarding your last statement, I have been thinking for years that EBU should do an experiment and hold Eurovision *without revealing which entry represents which country.* That is not at all feasible of course for several reasons, but it would be very interesting to see how different the results would be without the country bias.

And fans would find info about each artist anyway, but the majority who watch ESC without prior research would be really unbiased.

I like my idea of using the broadcaster's name better to be honest, still transparent about who an entry is representing, but also still a gesture to distance the entry from the nation and it's government (if the public broadcaster operates independently off course).

I'm sick and tired of Ukraine being devalued at Eurovision after 2022. Ukraine's performance this year was great, the song, the costumes, the effects were all very good. Unlike most of the participants, it was really interesting to watch Ukraine on stage. Until 2022, when the whole world didn't care about Russian aggression, Ukraine was also consistently in the top 3. And now, for some reason, people's opinion is that everyone is voting for Ukraine "not for the performance, but for the country". If everyone doesn't care so much about the performance and votes only for the country, why did Ukraine take 6th place in 2023 and not the top 3 again?

My opinion that partially those votes were from people who supported the country or Ukrainian refugees who are abroad. But still I think Theresa&Maria would've been in the top 10, or top 5 either way, it's very decent entry. Imo since 2022 Ukraine got higher televote scores than it would've been without war. Same for Israel this year. But I don't devalue those entries, and I'm Ukrainian myself :)

@@namenlos40 there are many cultures that have pronouns beyond “he” and “she”, and identities beyond “man” and “woman”. this is a very biased perspective, but i used to be like you, not understanding… now i have a friend who uses xe/xem pronouns and plenty of friends who use pronouns other than “he” or “she” :)) it’s not difficult to respect what people would like to be called. there are far bigger issues in the world

Ireland are number one at the top, man... Ireland had the worst song and one of the worst performances. Instead of a regular song, there was only a sharp transition between styles and screams that made my ears bleed. I had to wait for songs from France or Croatia so that my ears would regenerate.

@@Cussie3 The juries gave Ireland a fairly high place not because the song was good, but because the performer had a special status. And the public doesn't rate him as highly as you might think. In the end, I'm already thinking that maybe those who liked this song should have their ears checked.

Just 1 more thing: Before the Show I was in Favour of letting Israel participate, I was hoping they would be a bit thankful that they could still take part. But nope, they just used it as a Propaganda Platform and their Press Delegation harassed other artist. After all this Im kind of done with them and would not mind if they get removed. I usually avoid talking about political stuff (except at Issues where I really fully support 1 side, like with Ukraine). But this topic I will avoid aside from that, its way to complicated and toxic. Amazing video, love to read your comments! :) <3 (I watched your video 2 times, first one for the first impression, the second one while writing this comment xD) Still need some time for my updated ranking, because rn I feel like I'm still too emotional, so here just some of my thoughts: Albania wasn't as bad as I thought, some of the camera work was pretty nice and this song always sounded better live than on studio imo. But understanable NQ and I'm glad this year's qualifiers/non-qualifiers proved a bit that diaspora/neigboor voting isn't enough to suceed in the contest, not even in televote only semi finals. In general I don't want juries back in the semis, we could've missed out on Serbia and Slovenia this year! Also as the semis have smaller viewership it kinda reflects the opinion of the fandom better if it's only televote Help, I didn't notice the sand out of armpits thing 😭 "And he really did something we have never seen before - got disqualified" I shouldn't have laughed as much as I did xD In all seriousness, I don't know exactly what to think of the whole thing, too much is uncertain. Also agree with your comment about the staging and song, don't really get the hype Glad you also liked Spain, the atmosphere yesterday was amazing and I'm glad they didn't come last (no big 5 country in general) I expected way more love for Georgia (also Austria, Malta and Finland), but maybe Europe is growing tired of basic gril bops? (and also obnoxious joke entries?) Would be a great development imo. Agree about Italy, liked it at first, but it just looks messy in the end I think Latvia is in my bottom 10, but I'm so happy for Dons, he's such a sweet guy and deserves it so much! :D I don't know who I want to see return to Eurovision more: San Marino or Megara? I need both, and both in the final next time please😭 Aiko came 11th, what a shame, I glad they didn't invite her tho, she would've been booed Pleasantly surprised by France, deserved Top 5 finish, more than Italy last year Armenia has been delivering bangers almost every year and they almost never miss with the staging (this year they make - together with Czechia - the best use of the stage), either them or Czechia are the next first time winners imo I like Mustii's staging, but then again I also liked Sennek's so I'm probably not the right person to judge xD (I liked the contrast of the cheering crowd in the background and her standing there looking completely disconnected, like she was in another world, everyone else hated it tho xD), just Eliot's staging was really terrible imo I think Silvester lacked energy, because he performed right after israel. He didn't go into detail, but he said somewhere that it was a horrible experience to come right after them. During the rehearsal for the final he was also seen runnig of stage in tears apparantly, and I mean there have been several artist reporting that the israeli delegation harassed them and it's definitely something that could fck with you right before you go on stage, would be a shame if it's true :/ In the end I really loved Slovenia's performance and staging, it sort of has the same effect as Georgia 2015, I think they're in my Top 3 now :) Crown the Witch(es)! Nemo is one of the best winners we've had so far! I just hope all the Balkans that were rumoured to return don't pull out now that Croatia hasn't won (Switzerland is quite expensive), but overall this win is really great for the future of the contest Norway was robbed and I hate that I saw it coming, also one of the reasons we don't need juries in the semis, Norway was already borderline and with how low juries placed them in the final (overall I also think the juries felt more professional this year tho), I fear we might have missed out on them otherwise Could not have said it better for Ireland! Absolute masterpiece and great that we have the same winner now!❤ Crown the witch(es)! I hope we'll get even more avant garde entries next year, Bambie really made a huge step in the right direction by not only delivering us such a unique song, but also managing to appeal to both juries and viewers! Do you prefer this or Samo mi se spava now? :) !My (political) opinion, I'm marking it because those topics can be exhausting, so I understand if you don't wanna read it :)! I woud like the event to be less political too, but if anything it's the ebu that has shown their political side, beginning with israel not being banned for the countless political songs they tried to send and now not facing any consequences after harassing other artists, and imo artists have every right to be angry as letting israel participate actively endangered them and made their experience worse. Also, in the end a lot of songs will always be somewhat political as they reflect the mood of society and I think as the ebu it would be smart to stop pretending like there's nothing politcical about the contest and just listen to the public's view on all those politcal topics (if there's a country where the participation will only cause huge trouble and harm then don't let them participate), otherwise they would also have to let Russia perform. Which would obviously be terrible. Agree about the new voting system being confusing, also the fact that the big 5+ perform in the semis. What I DID like tho was the recap in reverse, they should keep that! Your comment is my fav reason for uploading videos tbh! It was such a pleasure to read it! And I laughed on my own quotes, even though I didn't when I wrote them XD Imo juries in the semis are very needed, at least because juries will have more options to vote for in the finals, and there will be no united jury domination, while the audience has a huge diversity of favorites. I watched a few videos about which songs would have not qualified or would’ve qualified if there were no juries in the semi before, and for imo it was at least not worse to have them. The Juries and the audience gave not so different opinions on Serbia and Slovenia in the final. And I really subjectively noticed that juries voted better this year. I heard they have more strict quotes now, for example Luke Black was on the jury for Serbia, and one of my fav Ukrainian alternative music bloggers was on the jury for Ukraine. Speaking on Luke vs Bambie it’s probably a tie for me. Bambie had better performance, while Luke had a more original concept and relevant message. Can’t wait to see which direction Ireland will choose next year. I really hope you are right about the audience getting bored of typical dance bops and obnoxious jokes. If this trend will rise and get developed, maybe one day juries on ESC would not be needed at all XD But still Cyprus was 12th and Finland 15th in the televote. Megara to be back? Definitely! San Marino to stay on ESC? Sure! I love France 2024 way more than Italy 2023 tbh. I think Sivester could’ve been scared because of attack risks during Israel performance. And in general this risk put a shadow on the whole show. I really hope those rumors about bad behavior of the Israeli delegation are not true, but if it is, it’s disgusting, and even more disgusting if EBU ignored those reports… Juries placed Norway one spot higher than the audience, I think they would’ve qualified either way. Also felt that it can be misunderstood, but nevertheless it hurts each time, to see such wonderful entries getting criminally low score. Political side!! It’s It is disetcult to draw visible line between social general messages and political agitation, and sometimes EBU has double standards, but it’s impossible to avoid for 100% as long as we have a show with countries participating. I would love to see as many countries participating as possible, but if they respect Eurovision rules ofc. It was a risk to keep Israel in the show, and I understand both sides. If the Israeli delegation really acted wrong, then they should withdraw. Russia now has laws that are not compatible with Eurovision rules, so I can’t imagine them in ESC until they change the government. Idk if reversed recup was a cool idea or also a confusing one. I wanted to make my top 150 ESC songs of all time to this date, but I have not much free time now, so I will make it no earlier than next month. And I would like to see more videos on your channel too, any tops or whatever :) Sorry for a long speech here too XD And thank you for being here :)

@@linsteps First of all thank you so much for your nice words♥ I can only say the same back to you, I don't write these essays under every video after all xD It's because I appreciate the discussions with you so much About juries in semis: I feel like with juries in semis this year we would've had Australia over Serbia and potentially even Azerbaijan over Slovenia. And sure those songs aren't bad, but Slovenia and Serbia just needed to be in the final. On that note, imo juries always have plenty of songs they can vote, but just choose to ignore, this year Serbia, Norway and Slovenia, last year Portugal and Spain (most of it comes down to them not appreciating heavy cultural elements which I'm glad they at least seem to be working on). And I don't think they would've given any of the NQs a place in the grand final top 5 tbh, so I don't think it influences the winner, especially because Croatia also came 3rd this year with juries. What would've helped Croatia win is if France and Switzerland got an more evenly split jury score (2021 flashbacks), but I heard that Slimane's voice cracked during the jury show (😭) so both France and Croatia probably were just unlucky and it doesn't have much to do with juries focusing on one song. But I also have to say that I didn't inform myself on what would've changed with no juries in semis in the past, so I can't say as much as you. I just have this one striking example of juries kicking my Top 2 out of the final in 2013 (Montenegro, Bulgaria), when they literally came top 5 with the televote, although tbf a lot has changed since then With Nemo winning, Marina having the most successfull dance track and Bambie coming 6th I would definitely say that we are in for some promising trends! :D !Political! I also want as many countries participating as possible, but only if it falls under the slogan of "United by Music". You can't let a country with a conflict this heated, emotional, controversial and overshadowing participate and then blame the fans or the artists if the controversy reaches the contest, it was always clear that people wouldn't just forget everything about israel as soon as they talk about the contest imo. The ebu could definitely make it easier for countries that are interested to participate to join them tho. Kosovo, the Faroe islands, Kazakhstan, I'm not updated on all of them, but I think they all expressed their interest, as well as some other countries right? Slovakia is probably out for next year as their newly elected government shut down their broadcaster :/ But honestly I think if the ebu really tries and makes the first step for some of those cases we could get a lot of new countries that aren't problematic Can't wait for your video! :) I will also continue to make videos! Imo Ukraine deserved top 10, or even top 5 would've been a fair result. I love this song and the full package, but I know that part of those points were not just because of the entry, that was my point :) Some aspects I like from MGP more, some from ESC, imo it was decent either way and only 5 points is wild... This year is so brutal. I just have to place songs in my ranking as NQ that I actually really like. I don't think I've ever had anything like that, otherwise there are always enough songs that don't interest me. And on Thursday I hope the most for Megara, they deserve it so much, but it will be very difficult for them to reach the final and for one reason: it is San Marino.
