I worked at a place that built aluminum cars and we would polish the bodies to a mirror finish. After testing all of those products, NuVite really is the way to go. They have different compounds and the coarser one really cut through and get you to a good spot quickly. Then its just a matter of using the finer ones to finish it off. Wool pads on a heavy duty polisher make it easy.

Did you rivet the BOM mount to the wing or use nuts and bolts? I have a BOM for my Zenith 601 and I’m debating on riveting the mount to a wing rib or cutting an access panel in the wing and mounting it on the panel

Two things come to mind 🤓 1st, it will be difficult to top off , without spilling . 2nd , the effort to flip the can 180 degrees, will eventually create more back issues, as well as the likelyhood of messing up and dropping the full jug on the wing. 😮 After adding 5625 gallons so far to my cruzer ( that is 33,750# or 16.875 tons) I think I can safely comment it is better , and safer to use a 5 gallon "SureCan" With a 2 inch foam wing pad. The sure can you can rest on the pad, put nozzle in tank, squeeze as much full in as you need to top off. Or if there is plenty of room, just put a clamp on handle and relax while it empties.
@mhilderbrand76937 ай бұрын
Actually, when the fuel reach’s full in the plane, the container stops filling. I thought it might be an issue as well. So far, I tip the tank the first 90 degrees and it rest on its side. I just use a soft drawer liner doubled up, but I like your foam idea better. The next 90 degrees I am lifting it up. Already have a fractured vertebra from my younger days… so I am very careful with my back 😀. It doesn’t pour out until the neck (by the filler) is depressed. The weight of the container depresses the neck naturally once in the port. So I am just there for moral support while it’s filling. It fills really fast, too. With that being said.. I am not sure I will ever fill my Cruzer up as much as you have, for the rest of my life 😂

So there's no sensor in the tanks? Does it just go on what you set then deduct usage from a flow meter?

There are sensors in the tank. In most aircraft, the tank sensors are an approximation, at best. I do have a flow meter which is extremely accurate once calibrated.

Very cool! Great color too. Only thought is that you’d want to do the panels from back to front so if there’s any overlap the air can’t grab it and rip it up.
@mhilderbrand76937 ай бұрын
Yes, this is true. However, there is a lip on the leading edge skin which should mostly shield any air from grabbing the aft panel. The reason I did not do this, is because I don’t plan to wrap much of the aft wing. It will be polished with random vinyl splatter designs. Great comment!

I'd worry about it sliding forward and jamming into one of the rudder pedals. Trying to maintain straight-and-uncoordinated while yanking on it would be rough, and you couldn't land until the issue was fixed.

I looked at that, briefly. Not a factor. The camera angles can be deceiving, but the handle bars would hit the instrument panel first… I would never let that be a potential. I worked too hard on the instrument panel 😀.

Nice job. Maybe drill the holes first then use a hole finder to exactly locate and drill the top cowling rivet holes on the rear hinge instead of blind drilling with measurements.
