I'd love to see this car completely finished as well as each process it goes through to that point. Thanks for the video, l am quite interested in restoration of cars, and other things and at 72 years young l've seen many old classics on the road in Australia. My brother had a 1962 Rambler Classic, green with white roof. I loved that car. He used to call it his "Yank Tank".

Great channel. Really enjoy watching your content on YT & FB. I'm currently restoring a 1942 Universal Bren Gun Carrier & I'm considering all options on what's best to strip the Hull back to bare metal? My only concern with dipping is the effects of the acid soaking in between some of the framework! Historically it'd be a shot blasting route but technology & techniques change.

couple of questions if you don't mind? 1) Is the Alkaline bath kept at high temperature, and gives of steam, or is that some manner of chemical vapor we see? 2) I notice the ropes you use are never effected by either the alkaline, or acid bath. *I know not all acids work the same, but, do the ropes get eaten away and are replaced? TIA

I cant believe this is a days process the place i use in slc they boil the cars under pressure i think 16 or 19 psi in caustic soda takes like 2 hrs

I remember as a little boy, my dad had a 5gal bucket of some kind of parts cleaner with a one of a kind, thick smell. I would watch him put a super filthy, greasy quadra-jet in the basket and sink it down in the black chemical. The next morning he would raise the basket out of the chemical and the carburetor would look absolutely brand new! Very shiny and clean! This was back in the late 60's to mid 70's and I can't remember what that stuff was called, but I can definitely remember the smell! Kinda like Creosote, with a heavy, thick smell!

I bet some people would be interested in a bit of a cheaper service by just having the bottoms dipped requiring much less solvents.. the full tank could act as storage for shallow tank when not in use by using a pump & valve? could also act as a preliminary dip before doing a full dip to keep the full tank cleaner? I also heard about someone do hot dip galvanizing.. I guess people don't call asking for these things otherwise you would probably already offer the services..

In his retirement my dad bought an old Willy's that was in excellent condition. He stripped it down to the bolts, rebuilt the drive train, and then got a bargain on some really bright construction-orange epoxy paint (left over from a job). You could find that jeep in the woods from nearly a mile away, and he got constant cash offers to buy it.
@marcusott29739 сағат бұрын
My ex-boss bought one still in its shipping crate (at a frightening extra cost) as a retirement project. He was quite a talented engineer, so even at a leisurely pace of one day of working on it per week, he finished it in like 3 months. So he brought a Dodge 3/4 ton truck in a pitiful state, which kept him busy for a couple of years. He was also always inundated with offers.

Hi Trevor, Willys was the name of the manufacturer. It’s pronounced Willis like in “Whatchoo talkin about, Willis?” But your work is incredible and stripping back the years of paint and filler so that each of these can be lovingly restored and enjoyed in a different context is admirable. Thank you!
@berbandisКүн бұрын
Then why is it spelled willys and not willis? I think language is what we make it and pronunciation is whatever people think it is. When you see "aunt" does it sound like "ant" or more like August?

I did all the parts for this car too. I was able to get the videos of the paint being stripped but not the acid bath because I didn’t work that day. Maybe I’ll post all the parts being washed in my shorts feed. I was thinking about adding them to this video but I thought people would complain that i didn’t show the full process
