Instead of a seam ripper, I often use a blunt-ish yarn needle. If you can get your grandfather to make you a handle, drill a tiny hole and epoxy your favorite yarn needle into the hole (the needle's eye goes into the hole) and you have an easy awl made to your specifications. 💕🌞🌵😷

At home, I like a pincushion that looks like a porcupine, but in my travel kit, I just added a second page to my needle book as I have to lay down all the pins anyway (when I want to roll everything up). It really cut down on the bulk of my roll by eliminating the padded pincushion. I'd place another pocket instead of your padded pincushion. 💕🌞🌵😷

Hi! I am currently sewing the dress and wanted to ask if you have a rough estimate about how much thread you needed? Want to finish it till Christmas and am unsure if I need to buy another spool of thread
@leo_en16 күн бұрын
Update on this, I had 300m of thread and have done most of the big parts. All I have left is sewing up the sides and attaching the sleeves and bottom ruffle and I think I still have 200m of thread left. I think I can get it done by tomorrow evening but handsewing this in a short time is a hell I have chosen.

What would historical folks have done if they lost or damaged their needles and needed more? <3 What did we use before the industrial era?
@annkahler3517Ай бұрын
Heavy starch will mitigate a good chunk of warp actually warping. Also using stabilizing interface just along the seam allowances will hold the shape. 😁

It would be more helpful to demonstrate on your body or from a diagram while you are speaking. It gives more clarity to what you are saying. For us visual learners, you might start with your finished pattern draft, then work backwards, de constructing it into simple parts. Seeing the whole, helps us to see the parts in relation to each other. For a person who is larger on the the front half of their body ie. larger busted the front side quarter is not going to be equal to the back side quarter, so one must keep that in mind. Your stays look lovely.

Usually I find something interesting about it, if you know it it's called Mother Hubbard dress or some call it "prairie dress" but the hem of the skirt is long also as a loose fitting gown. It was a housework dress and also worn by most of pacific islander women, especially tahitians. Also some parts in Africa until now, they still have the reminisce of mother Hubbard dresses in their garments.
