speaker coil impedance is a combination of resistance and reactance. If we will assume that reactance ( although not possible) is zero then what we have is a pure coil resistance. If we will increase the supplied voltage beyond the coil capacity (apply ohms law.for Power), the coil will get heated and eventually burn. Compare this to an incandescent bulb if we will apply voltage above its capacity, you will see that the filament lighted up and generate heat thus give us light, and then burned and cut off the electrical system network. That's why we need not have to turn on the volume ( potentiometer) to its full capacity to prevent burning of the coil speaker. Thank you

Hans, if you don't mind, I'd like your opinion on something. I've been thinking about this for a while, and have no idea if I'm right or not. It has to do with flat frequency response. If you look at what audiophiles typically complain about, high frequencies easily seem to the the number one concern. With so many complaining about the highs in their system, I can't help but think if going for a flat response is less accurate when compared to a live event. When we sit in our listening chairs, the tweeters have a direct line of sight to our ears. And given that highs are very directional compared to lower frequencies, could a flat frequency response actually emphasize the highs in a way that's not natural? Maybe a slight roll off would be more accurate? Anyway, it was just a thought and I wanted to see if I have a point, or maybe I'm overlooking something. I can't think of anyone more qualified to answer a question like this than you.
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannelКүн бұрын
If the studio makes the right mix, then that mix should not be altered. That is why a straight frequency response would be ideal if other aberrations in the electronics don't spoil the sound.

Köszönöm a segítséget.

The iFi does improve the sound quality but it doesn’t make it a €500 streamer.

Just trust your ears. If you hear it, and like it, then go with it. If you don't hear it, then don't worry about it. It might have to do with the electrical characteristics of the equipment (though very unlikely), the audiophile quality of the equipment, the type of music and how you listen and what you listen to.

Dear Hans, l just bought this device after seeing your recommendation in the ECD6 dx mkII review. I was looking for a solution in a second residence and the elac de s101g fits. I am just wondering to what extent the sound quality improves with a SBooster or a Farad if I am to use the s101 as a streamer dac. I like the tonality and musicality of the dac in the elac with the stock wall wart, but find the sound lacks some of the spacial queues I have grown to like in my other systems. I see you are using the sbooster with the elac in some videos and would love to know if you still rate it as being bottom system 2 with the sbooster on, or if it goes up to the top of your system 2, or even higher then. Happy holidays and thanks for all the work you do to guide us. By the way, I got it to 250 Euro…what a steal. Not sure why ppl would sell this device for peanuts. Can’t thank you enough for drawing my attention to it.

That is when used with the analog or digital outputs. When used with a Roon Ready network player or bridge, the sound quality is defined by the player/bridge.

wow i was thinking of this DAC but as always an unbiased view is always welcome. Han's no nonsense view has changed my mind on this dac. looks nice but its the sound quality i am interested in and it seem's its not as good as it looks.

Hi Hans, great review as always. I love mono blocks and I think 100 W is a sweet spot for many with speakers of medium sensitivity, 87 db . From time to time I listen quite loudly and I need 200 W which is only a 3 db increase of headroom. On a personal note, I’m glad that your health is good after your operation. Always looking forward to learning from your long history of technical knowledge. Already cold here in Canada😮

The amp was specified at 100W/8Ω. But 90 watts is only 0,45 dB less so it's not worth the discussion.

My problem with the audio stereo system (DAC , AMP and SPEAKERS) is the loss of detail at high frequency. The music listened is metal and many music portions with cymbals or hats are hard to hear or not distinguishable despite i hear them with my headphones. Did you recommend me Dirac ? Thank you for your work and warm congratulations !

@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you for your reply below. In fact, I did attach two sets of loud speakers to my M33 by way of an experiment to achieve higher maximum sound pressure level, the speakers were however 8Ω & 6Ω (giving a total load of 3.43Ω I believe). This worked well in terms of getting the sound pressure up to the desired level, but the M33 started cutting out when pushed right up to maximum volume setting. I assume that this was because less that 4Ω is out of specification for the M33, and draws too much current at maximum volume setting (triggering the protection circuits). My only question then would be - is this low impedance configuration likely to be sustainable if one avoids pushing up volume setting too high? maximising the sound level possible whilst keeping the M33 within it's comfortable working parameters?

Hi Hans, so what about digital cables? does here the cable quality also matter, especially for I2S?
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel4 күн бұрын
They are the easiest to prove that there can. be a sound difference, including measurements. I don't review cables by the way.

Thanks for the review, I have this component on my watchlist. I see mention of a Quad Volume Control System on the Teac Website, is this the same principle as the Variable Gain Transconductance in the Ayre Acoustics AX-5 Twenty?
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel4 күн бұрын
absolutely not. Since the Teac is balanced, there is a circuit for positive and for negative and they both need a variable resistor. If you then add a second channel for stereo, you get four variable resistors. It's a bit of marketing hype.

Good morning Hans, how would it be possible to know if the I2S HDMI connection would bypass the DAC's internal clock, and keep the clock of the transport/source? thanks
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel4 күн бұрын
Standard DACs use the source clock when used with I²S but some DAC's can be switched to the internal clock. If zo, it will be mentioned in the manual.

Hans appreciate your review. I have this streamer connected to my Cyan2 via USB cable…. You note on your listening that the USB output of the Rivo was bested by the AES connection…. Using a converter to I2S into your DAC. As the Cyan2 has no I2S input, I am limited to AES….. and USB of course Do you think it might make any noticeable improvement if I was to find a good AES cable and go directly into the AES input on the Cyan2 rather than the USB that I’m using now ?
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel7 күн бұрын
That depends on the streamer’s outputs.

Wonderful video, Hans! I don't have a streamer yet and am planning to get a DMP-A6 Master Edition and later upgrade the PSU with this Beatechnik LPS-A6. VHF FM is being shut off here in Switzerland and I need another mechanism to get the radio channels I normally enjoy. A minor remark: it might have been worth mentioning that Schottky diodes are capable of higher currents, have lower resistance and faster switching than conventional 'ordinary' PN-junction diodes, underlining the care that has been taken in the design. (They also have slightly different symbols on a circuit diagram compared with ordinary diodes). All the best, Rob in Switzerland

So if I understand it correctly, using the volume control of my Magna Hifi Mano Ultra MK3.5 streamer with GentoPlayer (connected to a Roon Nucleus One) through the Roon app makes no SQ difference, then setting the streamer volume to a fixed (e.g. maximum) setting and using the volume control on my integrated amplifier? Only if you connect your DAC directly to the Nucleus. If you connect a Roon Ready streamer over the network, there is no need.
