I've always loved the story of Tectoy making them think it was a Mega Drive game and then going "actually it was a Master System the whole time!" when Capcom were understandably underwhelmed with it.

You say that, but I have the C64 cassette of SF2 by US Gold. It's as ridiculous as it sounds, but it's official Capcom approved product. It even had a warning on the title screen about not setting your expectations too high since this is a system with a 1MHz CPU and 64k of RAM.

If Capcom actually were impressed with the port(considering the limitations of the MS hardware), then they weren't actually "tricked" into approving it. What a garbage, clickbait title.

Funny how you tell this entire story about a game getting official authorization, then finish by calling it a 'Bootleg'. Me thinks you do not know what that word means.

That's our "Brazilian way" of dealing with stuff. One reason the SMS lasted so long is that the Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) and the Super Nes were too expensive, so SMS remained accessible and popular, plus a trong marketing campaign for videogames, with a good focus on SMS, kept it alive for the longest time. It just didn't take 100% of the market because we had many cheaper bootleg Nes clones around.

No, MS ports of MK 1 and 2 had nothing to do with Tectoy other than being the publisher for those games in Brazil, they were developed by probe! However I do believe Tectoy were the developers of the terrible MK 3 port that was only released in Brazil.

Here's something you probably wasn't aware of when Capcom outsourced Street fighter 2 for the Sega Genesis to a Korean gaming studio to make for the Genesis the game looked amazing it looked almost exactly like the arcade version but for some strange reason somebody who was jealous of the talent Korea had when it comes to making games on Japanese consoles they decided to just cancel their version to be released and made their own and it wasn't even finished with it yet you can still download the ROM for the Genesis but I can say his career did an amazing job with somebody else's property

Tectoy also ported Duke Nukem 3D to the Megadrive. Say what you will about the actual quality relative to the original versions of these games but you can't say that they weren't ambitious, nor that they weren't savvy to the local market. Incidentally, the reason why Brazil has such a massive market for these systems is because of the massive tariffs on imported goods imposed by the government. The Megadrive and Master System are both produced domestically under licence within Brazil, whereas modern consoles are understandably not. These systems sit in a sweet spot of having affordable components, meaning that the chips that are imported from outside Brazil are still cheap enough to keep the enterprise profitable and the number of unique Brazil only titles commissioned and/or produced in house by Tectoy creates a lucrative market in software, as they've pretty much got a monopoly on all new products for these systems, allowing the consoles to be manufactured and sold with lower margins in addition to the ones that come with a variety of roms pre-loaded.

to be fair... tectoy did not made a bootleg... and capcom DID said that the product was a disaster at first , they only gave it green light once they saw it was tectoy "porting" the game to the master system for BRASIL (and in brasil the master system was HUGE, they kept buying that forsaken console WAY after it was long dead in every single part of the planet but brasil for some reason), so they say "ok we wont loose any money with this as they will be the ones in charge, its a closed market and it will probably give us some money too" hence the green light for that terrible 8bit version. hummerteam did a WAY even better game on the NES with super fighter 3 (and modders ended up making a remarkable version with real sf2 graphics and music)
