I really like this video, as someone who’s pretty new to yakuza and has only really played the new games. It’s nice to learn about the old ones

Ah boy, where do we start? With Yakuza 4, it's my 3rd favorite game up to this point for me (I'm on the finale part 4 of Yakuza 5 as I type this). I love love the gameplay so much out of the original engine (OG 1, OG 2, Kenzan, 3 and 4) games because of the wall bounding and sort of juggling you can do with the characters. All 4 characters feel so fun and different from one another with the best upgrade system still not beaten by any future games. Now as for the plot, the plot is held together by a piece of string and gum. First, I very much agree with the sentiment that Kiryu really didn't need to be in this game. Unlike 3 where the orphanage was directly affected by everything, Kiryu should have just flat out refused to get involved. I honestly don't know who could have been the 4th character or if just Akiyama, Saejima and Tanimura could have just been the main characters, maybe the latter? Akiyama's introduction is the same level as Majima's in 0, and he's such a great character. His relationship with Arai is solid, it's just Arai himself is a confusing character. Honestly, if Arai was the next "Dragon of Dojima", it could have been very interesting to see that play out. Saejima really goes through the wringer in this game, holy shit. Losing Sasai, Yasuko and feeling betrayed by Majima, just....man. Katsuragi should have been Saejima's final boss to have players feel as cathartic as Saejima beating up the dude that ruined his life up to this point. While we wouldn't have "Balls out Kido", I feel it makes more sense than Kido imo. Now for Tanimura, I agree with you guys when you mentioned that the side stuff for Tanimura should have been included in his story to flesh him out more as he does get more closure when supplemented with the main story. It's so sad that he doesn't come back at all as a certain event in a later game would have been super meaningful had he been in there either as a playable character again or an important part of the story. I also feel conflicted about Remastered Tanimura's performance as I love the performance, but it came at the cost of his OG actor being treated like absolute dirt by the industry. From what I've heard of his OG performance, I still heavily prefer his Remastered performance. IF they Kiwami'd 4, bringing back his OG actor would be for the best. Thank you guys for doing this series. It's so interesting hearing thoughts from non-fans reacting to Yakuza's highs and lows story wise. I'm expecting the Yakuza 5 vid to be like 10 hours or something, that plot is....something.

Fantastic video as always. I'm looking forward to you doing Yakuza 5 as it's one of my favourites, despite so many people hating on it. I completely agree with what you said at the end about it though.
