I appreciate the feedback. It’s a lot of work developing a script and making it fit the available video. I feel the C&O is more than just a nice bike ride.

I love all the details you add to the video, I especially liked learning about the Pawpaw tunnel. I always think it's interesting when you hear about the construction of so many of these tunnels and how they ended up taken way longer to construct. Must have been such a difficult job. Did you have ear plugs with you to help you sleep with the noise of the trains going by, or maybe you got used it the sound?

Sara, I think the C&O Canal might be one of my favorite national park sites. It does a lot to put things into perspective. What’s funny is we often don’t take the time to read the placards. Thanks for your support.

Such beautiful country to tour through. I've visited the Paw Paw tunnel and I was just as amazed as you were. I remember the long passage of time spent looking at the light at the end as we walked. I believe on one of the descriptive markers [or Wikipedia?] said when two boats going in opposite directions met occasionally there were fist fights over the right of way and the loser would have to back up. Awesome vlog , shot of the train crossing on the bridge was stellar as it compared to the previous canal boat mode.

Well done for getting out there to hike in that weather. I completely agree about walking facing the traffic. Too many people drive distracted and may not expect to see someone walking along the road. If you can look out for yourself, it's probably safer.

This is a nice old neighborhood trail.Like the one we used to use to go places when we were kids. In this case it’s also a connector for much longer sections of a 50 mile trail. That’s what makes this one so interesting. Thanks Sara!

Let's hear it for Greg's shoes - the true MVP of the trip. I've never even heard of paw paws before. I need to try those tasty things!
@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA14 күн бұрын
Greg’s shoes were long past their prime good riddance to them. Perhaps the served to remiss to check the condition of our gear before we embark on a long journey. We did get very lucky with finding those shoes. None of the local shops carried cycling shoes. Yes the pawpaws were very tasty and this was my first time eating them. They have a very short season.
@justramblinaround14 күн бұрын
Wow another great bike ride and so many great stops! Never had Paw paws never even heard of them we will have to remember that when we get to the other side of the country. Loved seeing the mill, dams, canals, bridges, forts so many great stops with history and the scenery was great! We will be sharing a few places like this soon we like places like this. Oh those shoes have been through so much still cracking me up! Your sleeping location didnt look that bad and great you guys were able to get some laundry done!😊

That was our only laundry stop of the trip. It was much needed for sure. The “chicken coop” was excellent. The showers were in converted port-a-potties. 😂 they were clean and the water was warm. Around the corner from the C&O Bicycle shop and "chicken" coop is the WMRT pavillion...a free primitive park camping spot with public water and electric outlets. A restroom is open except in late Fall-Winter. Sheetz is in sight. Can access from main street also across ftom from the church building.

The trail looked like it got a bit skinny in some parts where you could see people standing off to the side for you to pass, or maybe they were resting? I like when you include the old photos of the different bridges and the history. I have wanted to try a Pawpaw for a while now. There are many spots they grow in the wild near me, but they get taken fast. Last year a local fruit stand was selling them and by the time I got there, they were sold out. I think they sound interesting!
@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA15 күн бұрын
Yes, I did get skinny in a few places. People did pull oof to the side. The Big slackwater area was very scenic. My friend Steve at so many pawpaws. He kept stopping and foraging for them. He and Mike really enjoyed them. I love looking at historical photos and that why I add them to the videos. In some cases I wish I had done more research prior to the trip. Thanks as always for your comments. I really appreciate it.

There really is something special about fresh snow in the mountains. If you are prepared it can be very rewarding. I’m you would like snowshoeing. There are more than a few places you could go in the PNW. My suggestion would be to rent them from REI and try before you buy. Before iPhones I used to read paper all the tim, so it was nice to physically read a book. I plan to go back to the hut in February, with hiking to the top of those mountains as a goal. Thanks for watching and take care.
