Are you attempting again this year? I’m riding this for the first time this year. I have a few questions. You seem to highlight the fun trails. Are you editing out a lot of the two track and placement? How much of the 200miles are service roads and pavement? Thanks!
@hannonenduro6 күн бұрын
There might be 10 miles of blacktop at most. There is a lot of service road and single track. My video shows the hardest parts. It is difficult. Last year 300 entered and 60 finished.

Not yet but it’s still on my mind. Not sure how to find the owner if there is one. It is in a remote area. The nearest house seems abandoned. I might take a trip out there in the fall and knock on some doors. I can send you a pin drop of its location if you want to try and rescue it. You can see it on google earth.

I share my plans with family and friends when I go alone. My cell phone and bike can be gps tracked separately with an optimus tracker installed on the bike. And finally i have an ACR PLB-400 for a last resort. one push of a button and someone will find me. I might not like the bill but they will get me. I use the same stuff out on the ocean plus 2 marine radios with gps built in. Keep it as safe as you can.
@hannonenduroАй бұрын
GPS is probably the most important piece of equipment you can take.
@scottpurcell2813Ай бұрын
Every solo rider should invest in a garmin In Reach Mini w/ subscription. You can be tracked by a signifact other at all times, plus you can text,get weather reports,and more plus it hooks up to the app on your phone for even more functionality.

Great info in this video. As a solo rider 95% of the time, I have found my anxiety to be my biggest hurdle. Alot of times being in remote areas here in CO alone triggers strong anxiety/panic at moments. The negative thoughts tend to momentarily race and it can really throw me off. Im working through it each time I find myself in these situations. Id have to imagine others can feel similar in certain lonely situations. As you covered, being prepared for all but the worst of scenarios is huge in all regards.
@hannonenduroАй бұрын
Being prepared sure helps. But you still need to be smart about the trail and obstacles you are riding. Little bit of anxiety keeps you on your toes!

Just like you say, If I were to wait for a riding partner to go riding with, I'd never go riding. I don't have one, but I've been thinking that a Garmin InReach would be a good thing to have along. I bring a basic GPS, a trail tool kit and of course always carry lots of water. Bike maintenance goes without saying, but I'm always amazed by how many people ignore it. I put a large capacity fuel tank on pretty much every trail bike I ride. Even with that I've ran out of gas a few times before making it all the way back to the truck.

Hey Tim. Cool videos. Was wondering if you have ever heard of "Fasst Impact Moto Pegs & Fasst Flex handlebars ? At least worth looking at. Would for sure make a difference on those rocky trails. The handlebars caused me to not have to stop as often to shake my hands out. The pegs are the really grippy and absorb vibration. Again, awesome videos. I've driven past this trailhead a million times and never noticed it. Is it listed on CO-Trex or ___? Appreciate watching you tame it down and yielding to sprocket-heads and hikers, we need more of that here in Colorado. As not "all sprocket-heads in CO are cool". At least the group throwing rocks at my son and I after arguing in front of a carsonite sign posting motorcycles and bicycles are allowed at a trailhead. I still go out of my way to share the trails here peacefully. It will take all of us fighting together to keep these trails open to the public.
@hannonenduro2 ай бұрын
It is on CO-Trex I believe. There are several trails that intersect the Crest trail. I do try not to ruin someone’s day by ripping by them. Motorcycles kinda ruin the quiet for hikers and MBers.

Any tips for me, as I'd like to try this as my 1st long distance, off road journey? I'm planning to buy a new-ish DR650, as my other has seen better days, and I'm curious what sort of protection and options I should definitely have on the bike? Also, what sort of GPS do you use?
@hannonenduro2 ай бұрын
It’s just a really long ride on a lot of 2 track so a stock DR650 should be just fine without a lot of add ons. I would make sure you are proficient at fixing flats if you are running tubes. And get some time in the saddle before the ride. I use a garmin 66i GPS. It works for my riding trips and also hiking. It has the GPS texting and tracking options (monthly subscription) and SOS, so I’m never out of contact. Good luck out there and have fun!
