I love your distinction between primary and secondary differences. That emphasizes that the four schools have their differences, but the differences aren't fundamental. I might be Hanbali, but I surely don't hate the Shafis, Malikis or Hanafis.

Initially, I thought there was no reason to follow a madhab. I'm a Muslim and that's it. I understand now the reason to follow a madhab. For one thing, it stops fatwa shopping. Now, I follow Hanbali madhab . I'd recommend to anyone new to Islam to get the basics down, then I'd strongly recommend they follow a madhab.

As a therapist i have encountered sisters who were in secret mareiages. The saddest one was a lady with older daughter feom a different husband and a small boy from second husband. After that she was single for maybe 2 or 3 years and the lady with 3 or 4 years old son decided to move her daughter to move out of uk and live with her father as they kept arguing. So she was left woth pleanty of ti.e as she did not work. She used to take her small son to nursery. She then met a bus driver and they got married secretly. After 1 year she got pregnant. She called him thinking he will be hapoy. After that day he never visited her. It is horrible story what happened after but pleaee sister avoid any secret marriages. He just wanted to sattisfy his needs. The sister during the early stages of the pregnancy got ill and asked him to come and help her out and cook something for her 5 year old son. He ignored her..she became depressed.
