I am trying my best to be understanding. But if an American citizen marries an illegal alien, how do they think it should work out? Sorry, if they are illegal, thats criminal and they don't belong here. I welcome immigrants who come in legally. Both sets of my grandparents came to this country from Poland in the early 1900's. I am forever grateful that they did, but not for one minute did they assume they could just come here and live like American's, until they became citizens. Back then, to become a citizen they had to understand and speak English, because the wording used on the citizenship tests were in English. Even though English was and still is not the "official"language of the USA. They had to show they were gainfully employed and were backed by either a family in good standing or a church. Come in legally or get sent back. Its time for our nation to take a strong stand on this issue.

I'm all for LEGAL immigration, the whole thing is a mess. My biggest concern with the new WH administration coming in is Social Security, In 2020 Trump suspended the Payroll tax, the primary funding mechanism for Social Security (85%). His platform for the 2020 election called for ending it permanently. That would have resulted in Social Security lasting no more than a few years. He said he want to try that again, and made other suggestions which would cut funding for it, a direct connection to SS ending. I want to believe it's safe as I rely on it, but am genuinely concerned.

People currently in the USA illegally should begin taking the steps to BECOME LEGAL as soon as possible. As long as they are abiding the current laws, they may be able to keep from being deported by taking these steps and continuing to "do right by the law". They MAY have to serve some time or pay some fines (I'm no expert on immigration) but it beats living in fear. By entering the country illegally, they have already broken the law, period. Legal immigration is wanted and welcomed, bringing parts of their origin culture and language and integrating with United States society. I have known MANY immigrants, and a handfull who became citizens during our friendship (when we met they were not citizens yet but learned American English, learned our laws, studied, did the paperwork, etc and became lawful citizens). There IS that path for so many who do the work. And for any immigrant who was running from the law or their unlawful behavior in their home country, they may face criminal penalties and may not deserve to stay in the USA, depending on the crime and the burden of proof. Moral of the story is: Do the work to be a LEGAL citizen if you want to stay.
