stock piling soft drinks / soda pop is like stock piling sugar or sugar substitutes - carbonation has a limited shelf life - carbonation has short life - doesn’t matter how much you save - it’ll be flat by the time you get around to drinking it - so what was the point - my Dad worked for large soda company for 42 yrs - they used to get cartons of drinks each month depending on time been working for company - we never had more than a couple dozen cans (not cases) in the house - the rest Dad swapped with other sales guys on his route - our drinks were fully carbonated (1 or 2 a week only as kids) and we got lots of other “groceries” in exchange for the cartons of soda that would have gone flat and been poured out - just know that carbonation doesn’t last forever 🇨🇦🙏

Basic spices that were 88 cents are 1.12. Not bad and last a long time. Years. Don't need 5 dollar or more combos in the same size container. Just read the ingredients and put it together with the cheap ones and get a whole lot more. A quart or pint Mason jar will do it. My herbs I grow I air dry and put in little jars and use fresh in summer. Most are perennials I have. Mix in with flowers. Thyme is a good ground cover too. Will cover and smother most weeds.

Yes. The regional grocery store in my town in SE WA has flour (5 lbs), sugar (4 lbs) powdered and brown sugar (2 lbs) for 99 cents a bag this week. Most baking supplies like cake and brownie mixes, chocolate chips, almond bark, evaporated milk, marshmallow fluff and walnuts are on sale. Cosmic Crisp apples (the best, imho) are 79 cents a pound and oranges are 99 cents a pound.

@@AC-sn5io That may be. I’m in Richland area, closer to Oregon border. These prices are at Yokes-a very nice, clean full service store. They bag your groceries and offer to take them to your car. There are 4 Yokes in my area (one in each of the Tri-Cities and one in a neighboring town). They are in in Eastern WA, Northern ID, Western MT. I just looked up the locations. There are several in Spokane area, Deer Park, Sandpoint and Post Falls, ID, Missoula, MT.

The fruit stand I shop at in Bakersfield, CA, grows valencia and navel oranges that they can harvest most months of the year, between the two varieties. I didn't realize that the cost fluctuates so much for those of you in other states. I guess every state has their items that cost more or less than other states.

Can mash without peeling, cutting and boiling. They're softer and baked can just scoop and hardly any effort. I always look for shortcuts. I got fibromyglia and tired too so find ways to make things easier and not have to play Chef Boy R Dee. Good food doesn't need a lot of work.

I live in eastern Washington. Our local Yolks market has 4 lbs of sugar .99 cents, brown or powered sugar .99 cents even 5 lbs of flour .99 cents. I stock up for the year every fall. It’s interesting to me that buying household staple food when it’s on sale and stocking up is somehow new information! 😂😂 It’s just basic common sense. But these days there’s a lot of lack of common sense.😂😂 thank you for your content it’s very necessary to the younger generations coming up. Pray you and your family have a peaceful Christmas. I also appreciate you and your husband openly sharing your faith on KZbin. I know it’s not easy.

We live in a small town in NC. Walmarts, Food Lions, Piggly Wigley and Aldi's here and in a 30 mile radius. I have never noticed the kinds of sales you mentioned. I did find a restaurant supply store that opened recently. I can get 50# bags of King Arthur premium bread flour very good price ($25ish) compared to the $7 for 5# anywhere else. I bake lot's of bread so it is worth it to buy name brand. Lots of other bulk items. I have bought bulk for year's, so I have lots of food grade buckets for storage.

Have you ever done a time vs money comparison? For instance on freezing soup , how long does it take to cook and freeze a couple gallons of vegetable soup at the sale price if you made say $25/hr and compared if you bought at regular price vs a prepared veggie soup. I never have.done such a calculation. I have a cousin that’s always saying time vs money.

I’m sure that’s how the phrase “convenience foods” came into being. My soon to be ex daughter in law refuses to cook, so she blows my son’s child support money on fast food (delivered too, btw) for her and the kids.

I figure it’s where it came from. I’m just wondering if someone ever compared the cost of buying vs the cost of cooking or storing food. If you spend 8 hours canning 10 pints of tomato sauce vs buying 10 cans (yes I know canning your own organically grown tomatoes is better) The question is time vs money

I get 2 liters. Cheaper per ounce. Only get real ginger ale with real ginger for when I'm sick and it's in bottles or cans. Expensive but a good price is 1 dollar a bottle and just got a few packs for the year last week. It's a 10 cent deposit on each can here. A pain in the butt to return a lot of cans instead of a few 2 liters.
