About your light and mic who died, where there in cold place before you started using them ? When you bring electronic inside, you have to wait before using them or the cold can make condensation, so water, inside the tools

Bringing a player behind the screen is super handy when a player goes down in battle and otherwise wouldn’t have a character to play. When we did this, I let the player take over all the minions and a major bad guy during the combat. It was super cool.

I feel ya. I prepared for an all out WAR between a cult and the city my PCs wanted to protect with their lives. I invented new mechanics, mapped out the whole battlefield...planned and wrote for it for at least a month...it was the big finale. Pathfinder 1e so ....a lot of crunch and they were level 10 My PCs accidentally destroyed the city themselves before the war ever happened. Monsters!

Hi, great vid. Short question: how do shields work? What does "absorb 2 hits before attrition" mean? Lets say a character gets hit and has to loose 2 skills and 2 items. Do I now irgnore any 2 attrition of my choice and have to deal with the remaining attrition? Or do I absorb the full hit and ignore it completely and doesn't have to cross out anything on my sheet. If that's the case counts this shield ability for one fight and I got it back in the next encounter? Hmmm...
@BarlowKeep8 күн бұрын
Hey, sorry for a bit of a slow reply...was on vacation :) I asked about it on the Runehammer discord. These are the answers i got from people who know this system very well: "Not B obviously haha. But he is real big on stating that the answer is in reading the words in the book for what they are. So what is a Hit? As written and the way I understand it, it is anytime you are struck in combat. This is separate from Attrition, as Attrition is applied on a per Hit basis. With that understanding, a shield ignoring two Hits means just that regardless of the Attrition that would be dealt on a Hit." "I just mark a little circle for one hit, mark a second for the next, and then the shield takes attrition. Those two hits absorb attrition that otherwise would have harmed me." My follow-up question is: "So after filling those 2 circles, is the shield broken, or does it take the type of attrition coming your way (cross out/destroy)?" Answers: "If it says absorb two, it absorbs two, and then it could still be destroyed by attrition on a third hit I know I have walked around with my shield sitting on two hits and crossing off everything else of my sheet, hoping to get it repaired later." I really recommend joining this discord if you have more questions about the system, it is a wonderful community and there is so much cool stuff that you can find there and on the forums! Hope this helps :)

I really appreciate your take on this. I, too, find something beautiful about this dark setting, but agree that the source books are doing it a disservice by going all in on the edgier topics. I'm not against their presence, they're just not the most interesting part for me. Metropolis, the Underworld, Gaia... these all have so much potential.
@BarlowKeep8 күн бұрын
Their GM guide (Beyond darkness and madness) goes into a lot of theoretical detail on how to run different types of games and different kinds of horror. It was a sloooow read for me, a complex book for sure...but there are interesting ideas there. I've found some adventures and things that fit what i wanted to do, but I made this video when i first came in contact with Kult...and i still stand by it, the things you are going to stumble onto first are too edgy and don't give justice to the beautiful lore.

I think I might have to watch this video 2 or 3 more times fully grasp the idea. But the scenario looks like a perfect fit for Numenéra.

Yeah, i could've done a better job explaining it. But this was filmed as a side idea for another video that i figured out i'll never release...so it was a shame for this to go to waste. I had some ideas to do a 3d visualization of the space, unfortunately my PC is barely usable right now even for basic editing :/ If you have any questions about it, I am here to answer :)

My thesis on Kult (I love it tho) is this: it's not a game, its 3 games in a trenchcoat. You have: - masterclass on psychological horror - dark mistical/gnostic secrets - "Every conspiracy theory is correct - a simulator" And they don't work all that well together. Especialy since the first one is pushed so hard. From original scenarios, aby by seeing how other people play, especialy this mistical layer of the game is very underexplored. People really spin this game in the direction of edgelords, while it dont have to be. Gore, trauma and psychosis can be just a colour you add to the game, while scenario itself can revolve around magic, angels and demons. Given how much supernatural lore we get, how many creatures appear in the book, with stats ment for a fight, it suprises me how basic and uninspiring most scenarios are. Yeah, they are a good psychological horror, but Kult is so much more than that. Where is the machine, where is the lie? On the last note - we have a massive concept to explore, that is not talked about at all. The second part of Plato's Cave. One our protaginist have seen the truth, he attempt to go back, and tell everyone about it, and no one belives him. He knows too much to stay down there in the lie, but above, in truth he is alone. What will he do? I am about to explore this topic with my players. PS. WHY there is no magic spells, magic system at all in this game! I hate when developers leave out something important. PS 2. My soundtrack for Kult is Massive Attack on repeat.
@BarlowKeep8 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for commenting! You've put it beautifully! And I think you highlight the main problem much better than me. The problem is that the number 1 is pushed too hard while there is so much cool stuff that can be done with 2 and 3. I think magic is missing because they wanted to go with players feeling powerless, and even if you do something magical it doesn't have any mechanical things there - making it a soft magic system at best...which might even work the best for a game like this. (then again i see nothing wrong with CoC magic) I don't like that they went with PbtA...I think this is one of those situations where they wanted to use a system that doesn't interfere with the storytelling experience, but would actually benefit from a system that boosts the types of stories that fit the themes. These days I am consuming a lot of Kult content, but playing in my own Frankenstein's monster of different systems. Now that I think about it, maybe there are ideas for magic casting somewhere in those monthly releases they do on Facebook. I think there is a place where you can access it all. It's a bunch of free material, some even experimental, that they've been putting out for years now! Love the idea of the Plato's Cave! Massive Attack is 🔥

Thanks for commenting! Well, I talk about a lot of different house games/rules/ideas in almost every video. Here the video focuses on a specific mechanic...but i usually at least mention something cool in that regard. You can hear about planning heists and time travel in one of the more recent videos. Then there is the Nightwatch video where i mention 2 mechanics that i really love. Card reading NPCs talk about different ways of interpreting card readings in TTRPGs inspired by real life. Room design videos talk explicitly about some encounters that are homebrew as well. I am working on another one of those now. There are videos about the weather in Dnd, Creating visions and dreams, etc...a lot of different stuff to choose from so feel free to join us :)

This isn't just about video games. People who are used to playing 5e also have trouble thinking outside certain boxes. Even when it comes to character builds, a game like Shadow of the Demon Lord has WAY more option than D&D and people really struggle at first. I LOVE the idea of inspiration tokens! I wish I'd thought of this 😆

While I like the ideas you present the title is a little misleading. This not so much worldbuilding as it is campaign prep, session 0 and character creation. And one could argue 2055 is not exactly contemporary but that could be up for debate.

Definitely excited to hear more of your thoughts on Cthulhu Eternal: I really like that some of its recentmost modules have also come with all the rules needed in the back of the book.
