Hey! I'm struggling to find how I can actually have access to the EyeSi surgical simulators as all the hospitals in my region and regions surrounding all don't allow for those without prior training to use them due to how expensive the machines are. How did you manage to achieve those hours? Would love to email you to ask further questions :)

Fascinating. How much did the professional builders quote you to build the house? You mentioned you got some quote(s).
@eveyclay Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, we were quoted £97,000 just to get it watertight (block walls up, roof on but not even the windows and doors) and also not including any internals (plastering, internal walls, doors, electricals etc). So expensive!

Hi Evey, love your content. That is insane that you both have taken that on 😮 I built a small conservatory for my parents by myself which took several months (regrets - had to give up so many locums - could’ve hired somebody to do it for a lot less, though it was lots of fun!) I feel if you contracted out some of the odd jobs, like the bricky work, a labourer, etc. you’ll find it more cost effective! Time = money here (I’m sure you’re paying essentially two mortgages/ mortgage + rent monthly) Also please be careful with the walls - before the steel lintels go in, job sites should be properly surveyed so you don’t risk anything falling on you both! Really impressive work! Will you be uploading a part 2 soon, has given me some inspiration to think bigger :)

EDIT: Please ignore my above message 😂 I just realised your husband is a site manager and knows way more than me lmao. Excited to see how it all finally looks and your thoughts on building your own home (is it as glamorous as insta makes it out?)
@eveyclay Жыл бұрын
Hii! That’s awesome that you built your parent’s conservatory! The house honestly has been so much work! And it’s taken longer than we thought it would. Definitely very fun and fulfilling though to do it yourself. Thankfully we’re past the wall propping stage, at the moment we’re working on the internal stuff - flooring, bathrooms, lighting etc. We did get someone to do our bricks/blocks and someone to do our roof. But otherwise have done everything ourselves (well Bret has). We’ve been posting about our progress on Instagram, but definitely will be doing a part 2 soon! (: (tricky to fit it in with work and a baby 🙈)

Just record it yourself on a sheet (get individual signatures of people you sit in with), and then put together a letter confirming you’ve attended and ask the consultant to sign it

Yes, I've already been given the heads-up that I am the event planner of the relationship. But I was always planning trips with thorough itineraries for my friends and family. Honestly, it's not so bad if they are kind and gentle. I don't think dating a doctor is so bad if you are also a busy Project Manager that can afford to take the time to make plans for your family.

Do you need to have won awards for the presentations you do, or is it enough to have just presented? And how did you get the opportunity to author a text book?

Just presenting is good enough! I happened to get that chance during my bsc- someone else on my course wanted to write a textbook, and so I wrote a chapter 🙈

Thanks a ton for the video, Doctor Evey! I have a few questions though... 1. You said you went to theatres. Was this during your break year? Is it possible to just go to OR like that if you aren't officially appointed to that unit? 2. I watched your portfolio video as well. How did you go about writing a textbook chapter? I thought you had to be well into your career to get an opportunity like that. 3. You also talked about getting experience with Eyesi. Was this during the microsurgery training course or are there separate opportunities for that? Thank you again. Looking forward to more in-depth videos about each of the different components in the portfolio and exam prep :)
@eveyclay Жыл бұрын
Hi! I went to clinics/theatres while I was still an F2. Luckily there was a relatively big department in the hospital where I worked at the time and they were ok with me shadowing. Managed to write a chapter as someone on my course wanted to write a textbook! With the EyeSi- I believe you have to attend the microsurgical skills course first, then you can get log ins for the eyesimulator
