Very clear and instructive video, I have done small animal sculptures with air dry clay and varnished them with resin. Can’t wait to use your method to make bigger and better structured animal. So far I made a little fox, hedgehog and polar bear! Will ask my daughter what animal she wants next and we can do it together! Thank you for your video ❤

It’s fine though cos I will save money making my own!! I bought 2 silicone moulds, 1 with just Roses & the other one with different flowers!! Going to give that a go!! The paint pens were easy enough to use!! I made a tea light holder & finished painting it tonight & then I will varnish with the glue tomorrow!! Thanks for the You Tube video, I’m have saved the video & I will use that in the future!! 😁👍🏻👍🏻 😁😁😁🤗🫶🏻🙏🏻💫👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻

Do you use a primer like gesso?
@RedRockingBird2 күн бұрын
I don’t no, some artist do but I find that I can get the surface of the clay nice and smooth with sandpaper and then the most important step is a top coat to protect abs seal everything in

First I want to say I love your videos and projects and watch them all repeatedly.... I am brand new to air dry clay and trying to make some simple and easy projects but there must be something wrong with me.... I have looked through so many comments to see if anyone else has problems like I do and it doesn't seem so. I have not found anything relaxing about this... I am using water, wet paper towels and plastic bags....all I can think of to help but I can't seem to get ten minutes into a project and all the clay I am working with is seriously drying... I am rushing and frustrated because I don't have time to really work with my project. I end up slapping it together and leaving off a lot of what I had wanted to do. I don't know if anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong but if you can I would so greatly appreciate it ❤
@RedRockingBird3 күн бұрын
I’m sure you’re not actually doing anything wrong, can I ask what brand of clay you are using and what sort of climate you are in? I’m sure something can be done so that you can begin to enjoy. Thank you for watching and I really hope I can help you, Sarah ✨
@colleenbudde23663 күн бұрын
@ lol.... I am using DAS clay and immediately after posting my comment I watched a video of yours again and paid VERY close attention to you getting your clay out of the pack and conditioning it... I realized that mine did not even look like yours straight out of the pack and surely wouldn't work up the way yours did so I looked at someone else's video and it was the same so I wonder if perhaps I just got a one off pack of clay or something.... but I'm determined 😉🤪 I went and bought 3 packs more ( regular, stone and terra cotta) so I will continue on 😉😊❤️❤️

@ let me know how the fresh packs go ♥️🤞

Hey, i love your pallettes, they are very pretty. May I aak about your experiences with the coatings - do the resin and the PU stain much from Colors, especially Watercolors?
@RedRockingBird6 күн бұрын

@meganobrien10196 күн бұрын
Hello, thank you for sharing this amazing video ❤ just wondering, you mentioned sealing with modpodge here-is that specifically bcos u used watercolour underneath? 😊new to this and tryingto figure out haha i watched one of ur videos about sesling with the decoart triple thickness stuff and was wondering is that deco art stuff ok to use instead of the mod podge for watercolour things such as the items in this video? ❤😊 Thankyou soooomuch if you reply
@RedRockingBird6 күн бұрын
Hi, I find that something like the mod podge doesn’t reactivate the watercolour like other varnishes do. Different brands different results, so I encourage you to do a test piece of what you plan to use and see what happens before spending hours on a ‘master piece’ 😁
@meganobrien10196 күн бұрын
Hello I literally just came accross ur channel today, as a totally new to air dry (or clay in general )person 😂❤ your videos are AMAZING ❤ can I ask , watching this one it looks like when ur clay is dry u went straight for the white acrylic paint and painted onto the clay -im a bit confused as lots of differing opinions and products when I Google thus, but do u usually use a primer before painting on the clay? -what do u suggest here? ❤😊 Apparently gesso is good and helps the acrylic pain to stick better and not b absorbed or flake. ? As I say I honestly have no idea 😅 as a novice I'd be so grateful for ur opinion !
@RedRockingBird6 күн бұрын
Hi, and welcome, it’s a personal preference, these days I paint with acrylic paint and then I find it the top coats over this to protect that is the most important step, if you have gesso then yes you can use this first, have fun creating ♥️✨
@meganobrien10196 күн бұрын
Wow THANKYOU SOOO MUCH for making such a great and super helpful video ❤ I've literally just started Air dry clay and was feeling a bit confused or overwhelmed about options on finishes etc and this has made it so much easier to understand ❤
@RedRockingBird6 күн бұрын
Glad it was helpful, I tend to say test what you have first and see how you go, main thing is to have fun and get sculpting and playing with the clay ☺️♥️
@tcttvradio6 күн бұрын
Should use a primer for the acrylic paint, acrylics aren't designed to paint straight onto clay even though it works for you, a primer will give a tooth for the paint to adhere too, prevents chipping or flaking in future. A decent primer will give you a more uniform finish as well.
@RedRockingBird6 күн бұрын
I find the top coat to be the most important step and then I’ve not had an issue, use a primer/gesso if that’s your preference of course. My clay is most often smooth when I paint on, I always say do a test piece and find your own preference, thanks for watching, happy crafting
@tcttvradio5 күн бұрын
@@RedRockingBird no probs, just advice from my extensive art career. Acrylic and oils aren't designed to paint onto themselves without a fixative layer. Top coat wont hold the paint to the clay over time but in small pieces i doubt you'd ever notice until you drop it.
