One great tip using UV resin, the brush will last forever….relatively speaking, place the brush in aluminum foil. It protects it even from window light. I always make sure there is a barrier (cardboard tent sideways) between items you don’t want UV to cure until you are ready. Love how you are expanding your business!!!! Well done.
@RedRockingBird

Fabulous tip, I will most definitely try this thank you, that will save a lot of effort. I know a lot of people use silicone sticks but I really love the flow and feel of a brush, so a big thank you. The cardboard tent is also a fab tip and I tend to try and put something between the different stages when doing a bit of a production line, fab, have a wonderful weekend ❤

Yes, they will all sell ! They are absolutely adorable,that’s for sure ! I love how you’re never rushed and how you go through the process while you’re doing it and you not only verbalize your actions at every step, you also have so many helpful hint along the way! And if that’s not enough, you openly and honestly share with us your mistakes, what your thinking was, the step that went wrong and what you did to fix it. That, is the definition of a confident, yet humble, honest and talented clay artist and teacher. You have it all ! I love your video’s ! Please keep them coming ! Adorable as always🥰! Do you recommend anything to seal other than resin? I just can't use anything as toxic as resin in my home with my children, but can't find anyone talking about good alternatives. This is holding me back from making and selling designs. Any recommendations would be so greatly appreciated!😊

In my first pins video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6HSfZukdtt0adk I didn’t use resin but a spray lacquer and water based medium, worth experimenting to see what work for you, I know what you mean with the odours though, I don’t find the UV resin as bad as the varnishes in my opinion, best of luck 😊

Hello, I have a question. Have you ever experienced with working air dry clay in cold conditions (winter). I live in a farm and one week we had almost -15. Though inside the house it was of course warmer. However my clay did not work well. It was hard. Then I was spraying water and massaging it for long time, but it kept drying out, breaking and cracking. So eventually I just stopped and waiting when it will get warmer. That was Craft Smart clay. Would appreciate your opinion.
@RedRockingBird
@RedRockingBird 6 ай бұрын
Hi, when it’s colder out I find the drying time increases, but if yours is drying out with cracks, maybe it’s the central heating that’s contributing to this, best of luck

These are lovely! I just came across your channel and now I'm super inspired to get some DAS and get going. I'm just wondering... I've never used UV resin, but the other day, I found an old UV lamp I had for gel nails that I hardly used...could I use that for it? I just put it on FB marketplace to give away, but no one has yet wanted it, so maybe I will just delete it if I can use it to finish DAS projects this professionally!

Another big advantage of DAS air dry clay is it is much easier to work with if you have issues with your hands, like arthritis. Polymer clay can be difficult with these issues. And for jewelry, the air dry clay is lightweight. I use DAS for making Christmas ornaments for that same reason.

Most definitely, a friend was asking the other day what i would recommend for a kids club as she was about to buy polymer clay, but she got air dry clay after I let her know how hard polymer clay can be. Have you tried the DAS wood (here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnfMh3RogLCenrc) it's lighter for jewellery and I hope to make more soon with this ❤ Thank you

Those are all very cute. About the metal fasteners and uv resin, unless the base of those pin posts is transparent, you run the risk of the resin not curing because the uv light can’t reach it underneath. Same with the eye hooks. I suggest using superglue for the parts that are embedded or where light can’t penetrate and then resin overtop as you did. Also, you can devote a brush to uv resin and just wrap it in a little foil to keep it out of the light. The resin won’t dry or cure and the brush will always be ready to go.

Thank you for your insight. About a year ago I tried adding the pins in this way for the first time and that was also my concern but I never had any issues with it so carried on and so felt confident enough to show on here how I do this, anyone else concerned then yes great idea to super glue the backs on first, leave to dry overnight and then resin over the back of the pin like I did there. If anyone else has any experience of problems adding pins or eyelets in this way please do comment here, we all have lots of tips to offer and it’s great to share and learn from each other. Really cute! ❤ I've never used resin. Will these still hold up if you coat with just varnish and use a strong adhesive for the hardware?
@RedRockingBird
@RedRockingBird 7 ай бұрын
I've used super glue with success yes, this is how I attached my pins in my first pins video. These as they were to be considered to sell I feel resin is much stronger and allow the clay and the pin back to become one. But yes if you have no resin use a strong glue. Thank you

one thing I noticed that I would do differently is : I would use Araldite to stick the metal findings on to or to the inside the clay before using uv resin as the light doesn't go through the metal.

Sarah, first, thank you for all the inspiration you provide! Over the last year I’ve secured many products you have featured, leading to hours of creative fulfillment. I have never attempted resin and wanted to ask a couple more questions about your process. Once you applied the resin to the back of the fox pin and secured the base of the pin via the UV light, what did you use to hold up the fox to be able to apply resin also to the top of it? Also, curious, did you then have to apply anything over the resin, or is the resin essentially the varnish or topcoat? Thank you again.
@RedRockingBird
@RedRockingBird 7 ай бұрын
Wonderful Jessie, lovely to hear you are getting such enjoyment from your projects. Thank you for watching. So yes I fully cure the base and then you can poke the pins into some plasticine or cork or something similar to then be able to coast the sides and top fully in resin so there are no gaps and UV lamp again, hope that helps, thanks, Sarah
